Thursday racing tips for Rockhampton
Seven races are headed to Rockhampton this Thursday for the first meeting since the track was refurbished. The rail will be in the true position, the track is rated a Good 4, and the first race will be off at 1:47pm AEST.
Santismo strikes a very winnable race in the third and is drawn ideally to give himself every chance. From barrier one under Ash Butler, the pair will settle just off what looks to be a fierce tempo. He strung three wins together over the carnival before running fourth to Full Recognition and Fanaar, and then came second to subsequent winner Ta Chanson at Mackay last start. He has form around some good Central and North Queensland horses, and outside of Vogue Rock and Belzu on his day, this field is Non-TAB standard. He has never missed the place as favourite and should win this.

Billy Healy takes two winning chances to Rocky today, but his best looks to be Highfalutin Gal. She has had just the one start at the track for a win and looks suited back in grade to Class 2 company. There will be enough speed on here to allow her to finish strongly over the top as we expect to see her towards the tail of the field from her barrier five draw. Bubba Tilley has ridden her the once for a second, so he will be looking to go one better on her here. Healy has had three runners at the Beef Capital this season for two winners, and we think he can add another to that record in this. We’d also like to mention Srini, who joins the Coome stable from the Gerald Ryan stable in New South Wales. He has shown some potential but just hasn’t been able to put it all together yet. Now he finds himself in a much easier race and looks the only danger to Highfalutin Gal.

The saying is, ‘Don’t be silly, back Bubba Tilley’, and that’s exactly what we are going to be doing this afternoon. This three-year-old maiden hasn’t attracted the strongest of fields, but John Pointon’s filly looks the clear standout at a good price. After having four starts for three placings in some good form races behind the likes of Queen Of Style, Miss Lot Won and Poetic Final Say, she was sent for a break and resumed with a great trial victory at Yeppoon in preparation for this. Barrier 15 boasts a big query, but we expect her to get across and be handy to the speed and be strong late. She’ll be all the better for her first preparation and should run a nice race at odds.
