Thursday racing tips for Rockhampton
Rockhampton plays host to eight races from 1:20pm AEST on Thursday afternoon, highlighted by a strong Open Handicap. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out +2m for the entire circumference of the course.
We gave Srini a slight push in his Central Queensland debut and he ran well into second, which is enough for us to want to be on him here. Despite finishing 2.25L behind Genoa, who he meets again, we feel as though the 2kg weight swing will see Srini turn the tables. His only win came second up at Hawkesbury last campaign over this distance, so we hope that history repeats. Barrier one will allow Ash Butler to settle midfield and finish right over the top of them. This one should progress nicely through the grades in CQ.

Charles Seven got the job done for us last start at Mackay a week ago, and we think he can do it again here. He runs very well at Rockhampton and looks to have finally started to work out what he’s there to do, so we are happy to stick with him at nearly twice the price. Ryan Wiggins stays aboard and will be positive from barrier seven. He does rise to Class 3 level from Class 1 level and stays at the same weight, but the drop back 50m to 1050m should be enough to get him home. If his mind is on the job, he can blow this lot away.

You or I could probably run faster than most of these, but there has to be a winner and Ask Nino looks the one under none under than Ryan Wiggins. Kevin Miller’s lightly raced six-year-old gelding has one win from four starts and looks ready to go first up after a nice trial placing behind North Afrika, who placed at Doomben on the weekend. Wiggins has ridden a couple of the market fancies to victory in recent weeks and hops aboard Ask Nino for the first time, so let’s hope there is something in that. There looks plenty of speed on paper, which will set it up nicely for Ask Nino to finish over the top of them late.
