Absolut Artie passes the post at Rockhampton first

What Rockhampton Races
Where Callaghan Park | Reaney St, North Rockhampton QLD
When Sunday, June 27, 2021
First Race 12:20pm AEST

After the Tattersall’s Sprint was run on Friday at Rockhampton, this Sunday will see the running of the Tattersall’s Gold Cup and HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst has covered the feature race, as well as two races that he thinks are strong betting races and a quaddie on his home track. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course. The first of eight races is set to jump at 12:20pm.

Tattersall’s Gold Cup Best Bet

Jim O’Shea has his best chance at taking out the Rockhampton Cup in a fortnight with runner-up, Barachiel. The big grey son of Bradbury’s Luck relishes the Rockhampton track, winning 10 of his 39 starts on his home deck. Last time out, the seven-year-old gelding finished second to Tango Rain over 1200m and just looked to be out-sprinted by the champion country sprinter, so the rise to the mile should suit. Chris Whiteley takes over from apprentice Alisha Ross which is a big plus, and from barrier 10 he is going to be able to settle out the back and have plenty of running room in the concluding stages down the centre of the big Rockhampton straight.

Best BetRace 8 – Barachiel (#2) $12.00 with Sportsbet

Best of the Day – The Egyptian

Clinton Taylor and Ryan Wiggins combine in the second race with the ultra-consisted four-year-old, The Egyptian. Having won three of his last six and finishing runner-up on the other three occasions, this son of The Factor comes into this as a deserving favourite, despite the 60.5kg. While this speedy gelding’s winning margins are never anything spectacular, he has plenty of fight in him and Ryan Wiggins’ strong riding style will suit him perfectly. Drawn barrier three, he will go to the front, roll along and take some serious running down. 1100m is his pet distance and he is in career best form to make this three on the trot.

Best Bet Race 2 – The Egyptian (#1) $2.40 with Sportsbet

Best Value – Race 5 #9 All Native

Country galloper All Native comes into this Benchmark 55 over the 1050m course off a narrow second to Persaga at this track and distance on June 10th. The four-year-old mare won the start prior at Emerald and was not beaten far by Zebonet at Barcaldine the start before that, which is decent form for the country scene. Glenda Bell is a quality trainer and placed her horses very well, and with the booking of Chris Whiteley again, there is no reason to be against her. The daughter of All American will get back from barrier eight, but with plenty of speed on paper, she is going to get all of the favours and be able to be finishing off strongly. This is not an overly strong race, so the mare is right in this at what we hope will be a generous price.

Best Value Race 5 – All Native (#9) $4.20 with Sportsbet
