Thursday racing tips for Gatton

Thursday’s Gatton meeting will see eight races run and won. The track is rated a Soft 5 at the time of writing, with the rail in the true position. The first race will jump at 1:10pm local time.

Best BetRace 1 – Aonach Mor (#2) Get the best odds

Barry Lockwood saddles up the lightly raced Aonach Mor in the opener on Thursday. He’ll be first up off a break, but he’s had a nice trial at Eagle Farm in preparation for this task. His form has been good, with his two career starts producing a second to Chico Milagro and a fifth to the handy Lady Brahmos. He’s shown plenty of early speed, so the good gate, 3kg apprentice claim and lack of speed in this race around the 860m Gatton course looks perfect for this six-year-old gelding to break his duck.

Next BestRace 6 – Richest (#7) Get the best odds

Richest lines up in a fairly average 2000m Benchmark 55 and comes through a good win at Murwillumbah last time out. Jimmy Orman hops in the saddle and won’t be too far away in the run from barrier seven. The five-year-old gelding’s form prior wasn’t the best, albeit in a tougher grade at Ipswich. It was a fairly bullish win last time out, and the 2.5kg weight relief here will suit him. He looks hard to beat.

Best ValueRace 5 – Woohoo Girl (#7) Get the best odds

Woohoo Girl comes off a third at this track and distance when sent out as a despised outsider, and we have a sneaking suspicion that we will get another big price when the odds are posted for this meeting. She was one of Central and North Queensland’s top two-year-olds before Tom Button moved to the Sunshine Coast and she was forced to compete in tougher races, but she’s been shaping towards another win recently. She’s a quick horse who needs the short trip, so 860m should suit her. Barrier four won’t see her too far away in the run, and she may just blouse them.
