Gatton racing preview
Nine races head to Gatton on Friday afternoon, with the first race set to jump at 12:21pm local time. The rail moves +0.5m from the 900-800m and approximately +1m for the remainder of the course, while the track is rated a Good 4. With just a short 300m straight, it’ll be important to find runners that’ll be right there on the turn.
Toby and Trent Edmonds take just the one runner to Gatton on Friday, and Matthew McGillivray is there for just the one ride, so that’s good enough for us to be keen on Palicki in the 1100m Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate. She was beaten less than a length as the favourite in each of her last two starts at the Gold Coast. She’ll boot up and lead from the inside alley and should get it mostly her own way. We don’t expect to see the $2.05 last.

Secret Agent Man was well found last start at Beaudesert but only managed to run third over a mile. Up to 2000m and third up, we expect the gelding to be rock-hard fit for this assignment. Andrew Spinks stays on for trainer Tina Cotsiopoulos. With just 55kg on his back, the six-year-old gelding should be in it for a long way. He has drawn perfectly in barrier two to likely lead this field. He has placed twice at Gatton from three starts and has enough form over 1800m to suggest he can run well at 2000m.

Donald Baker and Nathan Fazackerley combine in the last with four-year-old mare Quart Pot, who looks well placed. Fazackerley’s claim gets her weight down to 58kg, which will be advantageous as they drop her back in class from BM60 to BM58 grade. While she has never won at 1400m, her only start at the seven furlongs came with a 5L defeat behind Ballistic Boy, who would be $1.10 in this field. From barrier 13 she will have to be ridden for some cover but should get that from Mighty Moose, who will go forward and is drawn outside her. This looks her go.
