Mr Marbellouz
Smart sprinter Mr Marbellouz is a leading contender for Saturday’s Listed Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba.

The Listed Weetwood Handicap is a time-honoured sprint in Queensland, and it is the feature sprint of the Toowoomba Cup meeting this Saturday. There will be speed to burn over the 1200m journey, with The Odyssey, Mr Marbellouz, Master Jamie, Fiery Heights and Monsieur Gustave the leading bunch. The Odyssey is the current favourite ahead of Just Orm, Boomsara, Love You Lucy and Master Jamie.

Mr Marbellouz ran eighth in this race last year when beaten as favourite in his first loss at his home track. The Kevin Kemp-trained gelding had over 12 months off the scene and comes into this year’s edition fourth up after three good runs. Last start he finished 2L fifth behind The Odyssey and under a length away from Alligator Blood. He meets The Odyssey 3.5kg better at the weights here and is drawn to do no work from barrier one. Ben Thompson got to ride the seven-year-old for the first time last start, so he knows the horse and looks a good chance to win his first Queensland feature. He’ll roll up along on the speed and be hard to run past.

Another runner that will make his own way out in front is the Rockhampton visitor, Master Jamie. The four-year-old slashed the clock last start at his home track, breaking the 1050m course record under the top weight. He drops 5.5kg and will carry the least amount of weight he has ever carried in 18 starts, which include 12 wins. Drawn out in barrier 10, regular rider Bubba Tilley will cruise over towards the lead and look to utilise the gelding’s fighting qualities late. He flies second up and is a six-time winner over 1200m, so he looks very well in here. The gap between runs will be to his liking also, and at $10 he looks a good play.

Best ValueJust Orm Get the best odds

Just Orm has shown very good form this time in with two wins as well as a second at his most recent outing behind The Odyssey. He meets that horse 1kg better off at the weights and will like the strong tempo. Ryan Maloney is undefeated aboard Tony Gollan’s gelding and hops back aboard here. From barrier three, they’ll settle midfield on the fence and flash home late. The Falvelon gelding does his best racing over 1100m and hasn’t won over 1200m in the past, but he can add some real value to multiples in this.
