Biting horses do battle at Warrnambool

Did Graffias attempt to bite Crossbearer in the second race at Warrnambool?

THE sport of kings never fails to surprise at the best of times, but one incident from race two at Warrnambool caught our eye.

At the head of affairs, $11 chance at Crownbet, Crossbearer took up the early running ahead of fellow outsider Graffias, which seemed to take umbrage with the fact that its rival crossed for the early lead.

In what was described as “savaging”, Graffias appeared to bite at the race leader, then stumble and drift back through the field, taking out the $3.60 at Sportsbet race favourite Room To Rhyme in the process.

The race was briefly thrown into disarray and all three of the aforementioned horses did not feature in the finish. Thankfully no horses were harmed in the incident and the race was able to proceed without further incident.

We believe the race will see Graffias the subject of a stewards inquiry however, with several hoops the horse will have to jump through before it can race competitively again.

For the record Kalangadoo Chrome took out the race as a $22.40 outsider at William Hill.
