Warrnambool tips & form, Wednesday, February 7

THE ‘Bool is back this Wednesday and a great eight race card awaits.

Warrnambool is Darren Weir country, and we’re expecting the stable to have yet another big day in the south of Victoria.

Race 1 – Maiden (2047m)

We expect Argyle Valley to lead here and not get run down. Out of every horse in this highweight event our elect brings in by far the best form to draw upon and we think it takes this race out from the head of affairs.

Race 1 tip: Argyle Valley to win at Neds

Race 2 – Benchmark 58 (2400m)

While it’s last-start win was at maiden grade, Canterbury King is the only horse in this race bringing in anything close to resembling decent form. The son of Shinko King looks to be at the right distance here and we think the only thing stopping it is the sharp rise in weight.

Race 2 tip: Canterbury King to win at William Hill

Race 3 – Maiden (1000m)

Nine horses greet the starter for the first time in the third event and Daily At Dawn is the only one with public trial form. The horse was decent in that hitout, and from gate four it will be right in the mix in an impossible to predict event.

Race 3 tip: Daily At Dawn to win at Ladbrokes

Race 4 – Maiden (1100m)

Dyadamo produced a quality race last time out at Bordertown and if it can produce a similar performance it will be taking this race out. The Uncle Mo four-year-old should improve on that first-up run and we’re backing it in to breakthrough here.

Race 4 tip: Dyadamo to win at William Hill

Race 5 – Maiden (1100m)

We like what we’ve seen from Spicer so far and while the Weir runner has yet to register a win at three attempts, it is never too far away. We expect the go-forward type to do exactly that from a quality draw and pinch this one from the front.

Race 5 tip: Spicer to win at Neds

Race 6 – Benchmark 64 (1400m)

Cape Sounion drops in weight here, which will be key for this in-form runner. The horse has only missed out by a combined length across its last two runs, including a defeat by a head at Ararat on January 21. In a smaller field Cape Sounion should go forward from barrier two and win this from the front.

Race 6 tip: Cape Sounion to win at William Hill

Race 7 – Benchmark 58 (1700m)

The Informer has been progressing with every run this campaign, culminating in a last-start win at Terang on January 23. The horse gets a great gate here and will be hard to hold out if the current form holds up.

Race 7 tip: The Informer to win at Crownbet

Race 8 – Benchmark 58 (1200m)

Forgive Black Mosheen’s last run. On Wednesday the horse drops back in grade to a better suited class and we think it can bounce back to the form that saw it register a strong maiden win at the beginning of the year.

Race 8 tip: Black Mosheen to win at Crownbet
