2020 Tristarc Stakes betting preview
Caulfiled Cup Day will conclude with the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes for the mares over 1400m. A competitive field of nine will face the starter, with joint favourites Perfect Jewel and Felicia at the head of an open market. The $300,000 race will jump at 5:50pm AEDT.
Dean Binaisse’s 4YO mare will be on the quick backup after racing last Saturday in the Northwood Plume Stakes, where she was caught in the shadows of the winning post by Fiesta charging home late. She maps to get an easy time of it up front, being the only genuine leader in the race, and looks to have the form over the rest of the field. If we do get the forecasted rain, it shouldn’t deter punters as she is yet to run outside of the quinella on rain-affected tracks. She makes her own luck up in front, and she can lead from barrier to box if things go her way.
Tony McEvoy’s mare struggled to see any galloping room last time out in the Blazer Stakes a fortnight ago at Flemington. She looked to have plenty left in the tank after being beaten less than three lengths. She was done by a length two starts back in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes by the in-form and Everest-bound Behemoth, but she’ll prove hard to hold out if she runs to that form in this.
Three weeks ago Rich Hips settled a lot closer to the speed than what she had done in previous runs, and it proved beneficial as she finished off with a nice turn of foot to claim her second win of the campaign. She gets back to the same track and distance here, but the step up in class is the only query as she goes from a BM78 to a Group 2 in the space of three weeks.
