Charlton wins at Pakenham

The last meeting on the Pakenham Synthetic for the season brings winter to a close with a nine-race card on Monday. Some synthetic specialists are sprinkled throughout the schedule, including a few short-priced favourites in the first half, but there’s also some value around to kick off your working week in style.

Best Bet
Race 2 – Mayshestar @ $1.75

With over half the field having their second career run or stepping out for their debut, the second event on the card is shaping as a race between two. Mayshestar (#12) looks the one to beat if she can replicate her debut performance when leading at Geelong and sticking on nicely when overtaken at the 200m mark. Hindaam (#10) travelled in the death seat in her only start at Bendigo in February and was pipped on the line. First starters Pony Gram (#5) and Coffee Black (#9) have both performed impressively at jumpouts and could be significant market movers.

Next Best
Race 4 – Our Tigersun @ $4.80

Fifth emergency Perennial (#17) was the early favourite, but she was one six nominated horses that did not make the final field. Our Tigersun (#7) was well in the market on debut when fifth at Ballarat and will be better off for that experience. The three-year-old gelding has firmed from $7 into $4.80 since Sunday evening and could shorten further as the jump approaches.

Best Value
Race 3 – Innocent Gem @ $7.50/$2.45 EW

With the likes of Universal Lady and Bat Pad scratched, Eleanor River (#9) looms as the $3.30 favourite on the back of solid jumpout form. Gifted Miss (#16) is another who will draw some attention. In a race filled with question marks, we fancy a small each-way play on Innocent Gem (#5), who was impressive when second five weeks ago at this track and trip.
