Pakenham racing preview – March 11, 2021
The Victorian night racing season continues this Thursday from 6pm AEDT at Pakenham. Rain early in the week means we may start on a Soft 5, but a clear forecast for race day suggests an upgrade to a Good 4 at some point. With eight races scheduled and the rail out 9m, we are in for a competitive night of racing.
Best Bet: Kermy
Kermy lines up for start number four at Pakenham on Thursday night. Despite drawing barrier 12 of 12, the son of Kermadec has shown plenty of early speed throughout his career and is expected to make his way across the field and dictate terms. Having just been beaten by a head in his last two starts, we are backing Kermy to go one better this time. In what looks to be a pretty thin maiden, expect Michael Poy to make this a genuinely run 1400m where the rest of the field will struggle to keep up.
Race 3 – Kermy (#5)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363342_03]
Next Best: Scream Dream
If you were on Scream Dream last start, you would be wary of the Shamus Award filly drawing barrier two after the poor luck she got from gate one on February 25 over this course and distance. She was arguably a certainty beaten that day and will look to right those wrongs with a win in the penultimate leg of the Pakenham quaddie. Despite the nice barrier, expect Zac Spain to settle her towards the rear of the field and then move to the outside. Look for Scream Dream to savage the line late as she brings up her second win at start six.
Race 7 – Scream Dream (#10)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363342_07]
Best Value: Galaxy Turf
The Brendan McCarthy-trained Galaxy Turf broke through for a deserved win at Wangaratta on February 27 and looks set to go on with the job at Pakenham. Having been three wide the trip with no cover, the son of Turffontein hit the line strongly enough to suggest he can handle the step up in class. He stays at 1400m for this race and from barrier eight should get a cosy run in transit.
Race 6 – Galaxy Turf (#2)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363342_06]
