Pakenham racing preview – March 25, 2021

Pakenham will host an eight-race card on Thursday night, and HorseBetting.com.au has you covered for betting tips, quaddie numbers and top odds. With the track rated a Good 4 despite a rainy week leading up to the meeting, we are set for a cracking night of racing on Melbourne’s southeastern fringe. The rail out is out 2m from the 1000m-400m mark and then true for the remainder, which should not impact the results too heavily. As always with the long straight at Pakenham, every runner will get their chance if they are good enough. Racing is set to get underway at 6pm local time.

Best Bet: Americain Angel

It is certainly no surprise to see that Americain Angel is a red-hot favourite in the maiden over 1400m on Thursday night. The filly out of Americain has had three starts in her lightly raced career for three runner-up performances. Americain Angel’s first-up run off a near five-month spell was full of merit over the 1200m here on March 11, and you would think with natural improvement she should go one better on Thursday night. Her last saw her three wide the trip facing the breeze, yet she was only run down in the shadows of the winning post. From barrier four she should have a bit more luck in transit as she looks to break her maiden at start number four.

Next Best: Our Little Ripper

We are happy to take on the favourite in Race 4, with Our Little Ripper showing last start that a win is not too far away. Having only gone down by three-quarters of a length over the same track and distance on March 11, the mare out of Canford Cliffs will be right in this if she can settle a touch better in the running this time. We expect the favourite to lead in the race and Our Little Ripper to be on the heels of Feminine Mystique the whole way. When presented with a gap at the top of the straight, expect Damian Lane to have her there when the whips are cracking.

Best Value: Meltdown

The Phillip Stokes-trained Meltdown simply got too far back in the running at Sandown on March 5 and was never really a winning hope. Jumping from barrier eight in the first leg of the Pakenham quaddie, we expect Ben Allen to get the filly across in a forward position in the one-one. The step back out of metro racing should suit the daughter of Showcasing perfectly as she looks for her second win in three starts this campaign.

Best ValueRace 5 – Meltdown (#10) $11 with Sportsbet
