Hugh vs Craig in the Tancred Stakes | Punt Drunk
Punt Drunk Daily – 3/4/21
The Easter bunny has brought us the goods this year with a mammoth nine race card at Rosehill for Stakes day, and a strong support card at both Caulfield and Oakbank. Do we just load up on the Persan and Melody Belle double? Boy is it tempting. We will keep this nice and short today, as not much has changed since we last convened, but be sure to check who the team here at Horse Betting are with throughout the day as we build towards The Championships next weekend.
Who Would You Rather Have?
Hugh Bowman or James McDonald? Literally it is like having to choose your favourite child because they are both as bloody good as each other. Well the pair head in to today’s Tancred Stakes as the two jockeys who have dominated the race over the past decade. Having won six of the last eight races evenly split between the pair, the duo are chasing the record held by Shane Dye who has five Tancred Stakes to his name. Bowman has paired Fiveandahalfstars, Preferment and Jameka to success in the race, whilst JMac has been with Hartnell, Avilius and Verry Elleegant in recent times. We would rather be in McDonald’s camp today with him partnering Melody Belle in the race, whilst Bowman will be looking to hand Murray Baker another Tancred on board The Chosen One. It will be a cracking version this year, and who knows one of these two could etch their name further into the history books.
Could Peter Moody do it?
A strong performance from Nickajack Cave, who comes from last to first to strike in the Listed Saval Beg Stakes at @LeopardstownRC , for @gerlyonsracing & @ctkjockey

Wouldn’t you love to share a beer with Pete Moody? The bloke just looks a barrel of laughs and no doubt he could tell a ripping story or three before he even mentions Black Caviar. Well Moody and his ol’ mate Luke Nolen head to Rosehill with two runners, both expected to be outside chances in respective Group 1 events. In the Vinery Stud Stakes he saddles up Princess Rhaenys who goes from a Ballarat maiden to a Group 1 in consecutive starts, not bad if you ask us! Then he has the mystery horse Nickajack Cave in the Tancred who two starts back at Leopardstown beat home Twilight Payment, last year’s Melbourne Cup winner. Moody has made a career out of defying the odds (outside of the great Black Caviar) and we imagine the VB’s and darts would be flowing tonight if he can somehow nick either of the Group 1’s at Rosehill.

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day
It is crazy to think that Conrad is a $3.60 chance with online bookmakers considering how well Conrad has started his career. Kim Waugh has a smart one on her hands, and the Maurice gelding will look to lead the field up in the the opener at Rosehill and with Tommy Marquand hopping on board for the first time we will look to kick off Tancred Stakes with a bang in an all the way win.
#6 Conrad
