The joint-feature of the nine race card at Caulfield on Saturday is the Group 3 Victoria Handicap held over 1400m. A capacity field of 16 has assembled for the Victoria Handicap that has been taken out by the likes of Widgee Turf, Streets Of Avalon and Black Heart Bart in previous years. The favourite for this year’s running of the Victoria Handicap is Pretty Brazen with odds of $7 available at Australian betting sites. With a few runners looking for the lead early on, the likes of Greyworm, Age Of Chivalry, Begood Toya Mother and Cuba are all expected to push forward.

How do you go past the enigma that is So Si Bon? His first two runs this campaign have been full of merit, he was competitive at weight-for-age Group 1 level when chasing home Probabeel and Aracdia Queen with 60kg on his back. He then backed it up with a gritty win at Flemington in the Listed VRC March Stakes when getting up on the line in a bunched finish. Outside of Mr Quickie, who he meets 1kg better off at the weights, So Si Bon has a touch of class half of his rivals cannot match. The query is he has not won at the Caulfield 1400m in 10 attempts, but that was before he showed more consistency throughout his career. With odds of $12 available, you would be hard pressed to find better value this weekend.

As mentioned, Mr Quickie is a seriously classy galloper, and despite not having regular jockey Jamie Kah on board he has a more than suitable replacement jockey. Ben Allen has sat on the back of Mr Quickie three times throughout the Phillip Stokes-trained gelding’s career and is yet to taste defeat in those three starts. The son of Shamus Award relishes the 1400m with three wins from six starts, but has done no better than second place finish over the track and distance at Caulfield. Mr Quickie simply didn’t handle the slop on All Star Mile day, and getting back on top of the ground where he has 10 wins from 23 starts is only going to benefit his chances of taking out the Victoria Handicap.

In a race full of chances, Still A Star certainly is up to a race like this based on her magnificent Tasmanian form. If she has come through the run in the All Star Mile deriving benefit than she is a big chance of taking out the Victoria Handicap at just her second start out of her home straight.
