The Group 3 Easter Cup is the featured event on the nine race Caulfield card on Saturday afternoon. The field of 16 assembled has 18 Group victories between them which includes the 2019 Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare. Persan, who on the back of a smart win at Moonee Valley on March 13, is the favourite for this year’s race with odds of $3.50 available at racing bookmakers. The 2021 Easter Cup is set to jump at 4:15pm AEDT. Leading the field looks to be Le Don De Vie who will look to take up the running from barrier one, with Good Idea settling on his outside.

Persan could not have been more impressive first up from a spell at Moonee Valley and with regular jockey Jye McNeil back on board the pair look hard to go past in the Easter Cup. From barrier 15 the Maher & Eustace-trained stallion will need a bit of luck from the get go to get into a positive position in the race with a bit of cover. If he is afforded a cozy trek into the race he is clearly the best horse in the race at this point in their career and will be looking to tick the Easter Cup off an impressive start to his career. He handled carrying 57.5kg with a relative ease last time out in easier company, and the rise to 58kg should not be too much of a detriment to his chances.

It is almost impossible to ignore the win in the Adelaide Cup that Good Idea accomplished on March 3. He put 3.5 lengths on a field that included Tralee Rose who would be right towards the top of the market in this race. Having been given the gun ride from barrier three on that day, Good Idea sustained a long sprint from the turn, down to the winning post and did not look to be slowing down towards the end of the 3200m. He steps back in distance significantly to the 2000m, but from barrier four he looks to get a lovely cart into the race and having won twice at 2000m we know he will run a sharp mile and a quarter if needed.

The marvel that is Harlem eats up the Caulfield 2000m having only missed the money on the one occasion, which was in the Caulfield Stakes back in 2018. His last start under similar conditions was in the Coongy Cup back in the spring and only went down a half length. If Harlem brings his best to the Easter Cup he looks a genuine knockout hope at an each-way quote.
