Rothfire
Rothfire is the short-priced favourite for Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens.

Despite attracting a field of only nine runners, the 1400m Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens is the highlight of the racing action all around the country this Saturday. Headlined by Queensland star Rothfire, we also see dual Group 1-winning colt King’s Legacy line up as well as Group 1 placegetters Mamaragan and Ole Kirk. Throw in Peltzer and North Pacific, and we have ourselves a cracking three-year-old feature. The speed will be genuine given Rothfire has drawn barrier eight, but we can also expect to see Yardstick and Peltzer handy to the pace. The race will jump at 4:10pm AEST.

Best BetRothfire Get the best odds

After Rothfire toyed with his rivals in the Run To The Rose a fortnight ago, he was wound in very quickly to even-money favouritism for this and has been heavily backed since. While he was set up last start behind Farnan’s quick sectionals, he had to cart the field up and still put them away easily. He has only tasted defeat once, which came on a heavy track, and he already has a 1400m Group 1 win to his name. Rothfire is unbeaten second up, while Jim Byrne will be aiming maintain his own winning streak aboard the gelding. They’ll push on from the wide alley and run them into the ground. The Sunshine State has been graced with some sporting legends over the years, from Mal Maninga to Buffering, and this horse now looks set to take the throne and put Queensland racing back on the map.

Next BestOle Kirk Get the best odds

Ole Kirk finished second behind Rothfire last start and hit the line really strongly. He has placed at Group 1 level once and finished fourth in another in his six career starts, which is an impressive record. He has had two runs this prep with a four-week freshen up in between and a trial, which should have him very fit for this tough assignment. From barrier three, he will be suited by the tempo and should hit the line well like he did a fortnight ago. Everything he does suggests he is going to eat up the seven furlongs and beyond, and we expect Tommy Berry to give the colt every chance of getting his first Group 1 win.

Best ValuePeltzer Get the best odds

Peltzer is as honest as the day is long and continues to run good races. The So You Think colt won his first three races in impressive fashion and continued to have his form franked by the likes of Anders, Achiever and Overlord. He has come back in good order with a second and a fourth in the Rosebud and Run To The Rose respectively, which should see him primed third up for his main target. Drawn ideally in barrier two, Kerrin McEvoy will land in the box seat and cruise into this race with a lapful of horse under him. The 1400m looks Peltzer’s go now, and we expect him to close off very well and give punters a sight at the double-figure quote. He does, however, meet his main rivals worse off at the weights since the last time they met, which is a slight concern.
