Trumbull
Tommy Berry and the Kim Waugh-trained Trumbull combine again in the Winter Stakes at Rosehill this Saturday.

The Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) is the highlight of Rosehill card on Saturday, with 11 runners to face the starter. Six of those come through the Civic Stakes a fortnight ago, including winner Trumbull. Dealmaker, Noble Boy, Order Again and Sambro are separated by just $1, all in single figures. The Waterhouse & Bott pair Taikomochi and Ready To Prophet will look to lead the race, with Trumbull likely to be handy if he jumps with them.

Saturday racing tips for 2020 Winter Stakes

Best Bet
Sambro @ $6.50 Neds

We were keen on Sambro in the Civic Stakes when he hit the line nicely to finish sixth after a let up and a drop in trip. He looked as though he was going to finish a mile back at about the 200 but picked up nicely the last little bit, which gives us confidence going into this race with a slight rise in distance. He does take on another half a kilo in weight but still meets his main dangers better off than last time out. Glen Boss goes aboard and should get a sweet run from barrier two. The wet track wont be a problem for the five-year-old, which has won on a heavy and placed four times on a soft. Expect him to hit the line very strongly here.

Next Best
Trumbull @ $4 Neds

Trumbull might have finally put it all together now and fixed his barrier manners, which puts him right in this. Beating half of the field in this race home a fortnight ago is an obvious tick in his box as he looks to make it two in a row. He landed in a great spot last start behind Home Of The Brave on the fence, got the split and kicked away for an impressive victory under Tommy Berry, who has retained the ride over Nash Rawiller and looks perfectly placed by trainer Kim Waugh. As favourite, Trumbull has won four times from six starts and placed in the other two, which is a good sign for the $4 market leader. Barrier eight should see him land one-out, one-back before hitting the front somewhere in the straight. Very hard to hold out.

Best Value
Sikandarabad @ $21 Neds

Sikandarabad is an interesting runner now with Sam Kavanagh, coming from the Lindsay Park stable at Euroa. The seven-year-old gelding has a Group 1 placing to his name and comes into this task first up off a nine-week spell having trialled nicely at Muswellbrook. He is a winner first up in the past and does have a victory over the seven furlongs, which is a big plus considering his best work is done when he gets out over a trip. Tim Clark takes the ride, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see him close to the speed from the outside draw. He will definitely be fitter for the run and once he gets out over a bit more ground, but he is worth pointing out as he could win a few races in late winter and early spring over 2000m and beyond.
