Just Now 2020 betting preview
The final race at Eagle Farm on Saturday is the Listed Just Now for fillies and mares over 1300m. A field of 15 has been assembled for the $125,000 feature, which sees the market topped by the 2019 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner, Exhilarates. Outside of her, it is a wide-open betting affair, with the likes of Krone, Baccarat Baby and Splendoronthegrass all in single figures. It will be a fairly moderately run race, with Spirit’s Choice, Epic Girl and Pennino all likely to go forward.
Exhilarates is the best horse in the race without a doubt, and while these races often throw up rough results, it’s just too hard to go past her. The $2 million earner is having her first start in just over a month since winning emphatically down the straight at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, beating five subsequent winners. She placed in the Fred Best Classic behind Dawn Passage in her only start over 1300m and finished five lengths off the winner in the Stradbroke at her only look around Eagle Farm. If she brings her best, she will win.
Splendoronthegrass brought to Queensland some cracking form from Victoria, and she franked that by winning well at Ipswich first up. Down on the minimum under Steph Thornton, she will get the run to suit from barrier six and charge home late. She is undefeated over 1300m, which both came at Sandown – a similar track to Eagle Farm. She is the value in the race.
Krone for the Tony Gollan stable brings some of the better Queensland mares form to the race, having won the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast over the winter. Leading up to that, she was in and around the money in everything, including placings in the Helen Coughlan and the Sapphire Stakes. She has placed once at Eagle Farm when third in last year’s Fred Best over 1400m, so she should be suited again. Put a pen through her first-up run; she can bounce back in this.
