Vanna Girl racing news
Promising filly Vanna Girl will be trying to end her winter campaign on a winning note in The Roses.

The Group 2 Magic Millions The Roses is the feature race on Eagle Farm’s nine-race program on Saturday. This race would normally be used as a final lead-up run for the 3yo fillies before a tilt at the Queensland Oaks, but that won’t be the case this year. The 1800m event will be filled by 15 fillies, running for $175,000 in prizemoney. There looks to be plenty of speed in the race, with three Sydney raiders, Celestial Falls, Money Magic and Shuhood, all likely to push forward and look to lead. Locally trained filly Vanna Girl is the current $2.40 favourite as she shoots for four wins in a row.

Best Bet
Vanna Girl @ $2.35

We have no reason to go past the talented Vanna Girl as she looks to log her seventh win in her 10th start. The Husson filly has won three in a row this campaign, all in commanding fashion, with strong form lines surrounding her. Two starts back she beat home the subsequent winners of the Gunsynd Classic and Rough Habit Plate in Supergiant and Ballistic Boy, before a last-start win in the Pam O’Neill where she looped the field to get up by half a length. Toby and Trent Edmonds have this filly flying and everything suggests the 1800m will be no worries at all. From barrier 13, Brad Stewart will likely go back and hope for a similar run to a fortnight ago, finishing over the top of tiring leaders. While she is in black figures, she looks nearly the best bet on the entire program.

Next Best
Sky Horse @ $6

Southern raider Sky Horse, from the Maher & Eustace stable, comes into this race very well after running a brilliant fourth in the Gunsynd Classic in her Queensland debut. She cornered for home last in the big field and worked home very strongly at this track and distance on that occasion. From barrier three, Ryan Maloney won’t have to get that far back on the Tavistock filly and should give her every chance to be strong late. We would have preferred to see her over a bit further, but with the three-week rest she should be firing at the 1800m again. She is a clear second pick in this.

Best Value
Florent @ $15

Tony Noonan sends north his Fiorente filly, Florent, which has been racing well this campaign and appears to be a live each-way chance at around the $15. This will be her fifth run in this preparation, which includes a win and two placings in Victorian metropolitan grade, so she should be peaking here at her first attempt beyond the mile. She will get a lovely run in transit from barrier six, most likely sitting just behind the leaders for jockey Andrew Mallyon. She receives a significant weight drop from her last start, which will be a big advantage for her, especially over the concluding stages. Her breeding suggests the distance will be no concerns for her either. She is a must-have in your multiples.
