Townsville tips & full form for Friday, February 2

THE sunshine state’s racing focus will almost solely be on Townsville on Friday as the popular venue hosts a strong eight race card.

There’s plenty of great racing on offer and we’re looking forward to what the day will bring, so let’s get stuck into the tips.

Race 1 – Maiden Handicap (1000m)

Craiglea Ella rounded out the placings at this track in its second-ever race start and in a smaller field with not a lot standing out we think it’s poised to deliver the goods. The horse should utilise the inside draw to hug the rails all the way home.

Race 1 tip: Craiglea Ella to win ($2.05 at Sportsbet)

Race 2 – Benchmark 65 (1609m)

Red Calvary has won two of its last three races and takes in the best form of any runner in the field. The horse is progressing nicely this preparation and from the inside draw will have the opportunity to hold the lead and win it from the front.

Race 2 tip: Red Calvary to win ($2.90 at Neds)

Race 3 – Class 6 Plate (1000m)

Snappy Legend is a last-start winner at this class, distance and track and we’re in no place to recommend any other runner coming into this event. 15 of the horses 16 career starts have bene at Townsville and it’s won five of those and missed the placings just two times. Back Snappy Legend in once again.

Race 3 tip: Snappy Legend to win ($2.05 at Sportsbet)

Race 4 – Maiden Handicap (1400m)

Day Of The Fox has placed in three straight events and gets a weight relief coming into this race. We expect the in-form runner to camp on the leaders and finish all over the top of them when it matters most.

Race 4 tip: Day Of The Fox to win ($9 at William Hill)

Race 5 – Maiden Handicap (1000m)

The only thing stopping Fields Avenue from winning this maiden event is barrier 11. The horse has great form leading into this one and missed out by a lip last-time out at Townsville three weeks ago. A win beckons for Fields Avenue.

Race 5 tip: Fields Avenue to win ($1.65 at Neds)

Race 6 – Benchmark 70 (1300m)

Awakenings gets a great gate to jump from on Friday to complete a hat-trick of wins. The last-start win was at this level and while the horse jumps up 2kg in the weights, it is impossible to fault the form.

Race 6 tip: Awakenings to win ($4.20 at William Hill)

Race 7 – Benchmark 55 (1000m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180958_07]

Written Tycoon four-year-old will look to improve after three ordinary starts recently but before that the horse hadn’t been too far off the mark, placing in three of four runs. The horse can lead from barrier two and win it from the leading division.

Race 7 tip: Chic Sox to win ($5 at Crownbet)

Race 8 – Benchmark 55 (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180958_08]

Carlino’s Way over the odds for us given its third-up record. The horse has won and placed across four third-up attempts and was far from disgraced last start at Innisfail at this grading. Carlino’s Way is one for the exotics in the last that has more than enough ability to take this race out.

Race 8 tip: Carlino’s Way to win ($10 at Crownbet)
