Randwick tips & full form for Saturday, March 3

IT is Chipping Norton Stakes Day at Randwick on Saturday and punters are no doubt excited about the return of the mighty mare Winx.

No guesses as to which horse we’re tipping in the feature, but we have tips for the other eight events on the card.

Let’s get stuck into it.

Race 1 – Highway Plate (1600m)

Keymaster comes into this race in stellar form. In its last three races the horse has registered two wins and a second placing, including a last-start six and a half length win at Bathurst carrying the same amount of weight it will here.

Race 1 tip: Keymaster to win ($5 at William Hill)

Race 2 – Benchmark 85 (2000m)

Gun runner Almost Court will find the front easily here and will take catching. The star gelding made a winning debut at Randwick on February 17 when it dead-heated with Emperor’s Way. Looms as a winning threat.

Race 2 tip: Almost Court to win ($3.90 at Ladbrokes)

Race 3 – Skyline Stakes (1200m)

Santos was a dominant winner at open level upon resumption on Feburary 17 and should be even better on Saturday. The promising colt should attempt to lead from gate two and run the field into the ground.

Race 3 tip: Santos to win ($2.05 at Sportsbet)

Race 4 – Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m)

We’re liking the look of Fiesta heading into this event. The horse made a winning resumption at Randwick on February 3 and a fitter animal should be much improved second-up.

Race 4 tip: Fiesta to win ($5 at Sportsbet)

Race 5 – Liverpool City Cup (1300m)

We’re expecting Care To Think to firm into a worse than even-money favourite here. The horse is hunting a six-straight win and it comes into the race on the back of a three and a half length trial win. Care To Think should win in a canter.

Race 5 tip: Care To Think to win ($2.60 at William Hill)

Race 6 – Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m)

We were tempted to just type “Winx” here, but we’ll fluff it out a bit. The mighty mare is first-up after a successful Cox Plate campaign and has trialed beautifully coming into the Chipping Norton Stakes. Winx is a moral.

Race 6 tip: Winx to win ($1.08 at William Hill)

Race 7 – Surround Stakes (1400m)

Alizee is hunting a second-straight win and is poised to get it. The Godolphin runner registered a first-up win in the Group 2 Light Finger Stakes (1200m) and looms as a strong chance here.

Race 7 tip: Grunt to win ($2.20 at Crownbet)

Race 8 – Open Stakes (1400m)

Danish Twist is second-up here, where it has won at previously. The horse resumed well at Warwick Farm on February 10, placing third in the Group 2 Yarraman Park Breeders Classic (1200m) and we think it will be improved from that run.

Race 8 tip: Danish Twist to win ($4.20 at Ladbrokes)

Race 9 – Benchmark 85 (1200m)

In any other race Generalissimo would be jumping at a much shorter price, but given the quality of the final event there’s great odds around the second-up horse. The Dream Ahead gelding resumed with a fourth placed finish, just half a length behind the ever-improving Suncraze. We’re backing the four-year-old Generalissimo in.

Race 9 tip: Generalissimo to win ($8.50 at Neds)
