Railway Stakes all-in betting market and early tips

Good Project
Good Project won the 2015 Railway Stakes and it looks a good early bet again this year

THE Railway Stakes is the feature mile during the Perth Racing carnival and punters can start betting on the Group one now.

Sportsbet.com.au has opened a market for the $1 million Railway Stakes on November 19 at Ascot where a recent winner has been installed as the favourite.

The current all-in market features some of Australasia’s best middle-distance horses from all parts of the country and beyond. Betting on the all-in market can be risky because if your horse doesn’t start, you don’t get your money back, but the value on offer is worth it.

All-in markets usually offer better odds than punters would get on the day, so pick out your early Railway Stakes fancy and lock in that value with Sportsbet.

Railway Stakes all-in tips

Perfect Reflection – $5.50

The locally-trained four-year-old looks a great early bet for the Group 1 Railway Stakes. It won the Group 2 Waroa-Lee Steere Stakes at Ascot last Saturday and it will be jockey William Pike’s first choice for the race.

The daughter of More Than Ready won its first five starts for trainer Grant Williams, which included the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic last December.

It then ran in the Vanity Stakes at Flemington where it finished a credible third behind Don’t Doubt Mamma, but it finished last in the Australian Guineas before returning back to Perth.

It is ticking along nicely this campaign and having already won at the highest level in Perth, we don’t see any reason as to why Perfect Reflection can’t win the Railway Stakes at odds of $5.50 with Sportsbet.

Rageese – $9

The Darren Weir-trained Rageese is coming off a stylish win at Flemington in the L’Oreal Paris Stakes on Oaks Day and Weir is confident it will head to Perth two weeks time.

The four-year-old defeated handy types in Arod and Amovatio last Thursday and that form should stand up nicely this time of the year.

It has had only one start at the mile which came when it finished fifth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas behind Press Statement so there shouldn’t be any queries over seeing out the distance.

The son of Street Cry is bred to appreciate this distance and we can see it featuring in the finish at Ascot on November 19.

Kawi – $11

The New Zealand multiple Group one winner finished fourth behind Perfect Reflection in the Lee Steere Stakes on Saturday, but it didn’t have the run to suit.

The 13-time winner was forced to do the chasing on what was a hot speed up front, but it battled on well enough and it deserves another chance to show the locals how good it is.

The temperature last Saturday was very warm compared to conditions in New Zealand, but it will be able to acclimatise over the next 13 days and settle in nicely.

Good Project – $21

Good Project won this race last year and is entitled to have respect this time around.

The Chris Waller-trained horse hasn’t won since taking out the 2015 Railway Stakes, but it hasn’t had the best of luck and it has always made a habit of spacing out its wins.

In three starts this season the five -year-old has produced mixed results. It finished 10th fresh up in the Premiere Stakes, but that was a top-quality race which was run in a slick 1200m time.

It then went to Caulfield where it finished an unlucky fourth in the Moonga Stakes behind Voodoo Lad and had it received some room along the inside of runners, it could have secured its sixth career win.

Its last start came in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes where it ran seventh behind Le Romain, but expect a seasoned effort at Ascot in the Railway.

Take the $21 on offer at Sportsbet for some good value.
