Kiwi Jumps king Australian bound

THE Kevin Myers-trained Sea King will board a flight to Melbourne on Wednesday.

The top New Zealand jumper, who won the Awapuni Hurdles two runs back, will open its fourth Australian campaign at Bendigo on Sunday in the Brendan Drechsler Hurdles.

Part owern Rachael Frost said the Sea King team will target the Grand National.

“All going well, the plan is for him to run in the Crisp Steeplechase and then the Grand National Steeplechase,” part-owner Rachael Frost said.

Sea King’s Australian winning tally includes taking out the Mosstrooper twice, a victory in Thackeray Steeplechases and the Grand National.

JUMBO JET THE TARGET FOR ALIBI

Alibi had a glittering year in Singapore after winning two legs of the Singapore Four-Year-old Challenge, and trainer Michael Clements is happy despite the horse’s fourth placed finish in the Singapore Derby.

The Darci Brahma horse had previously won the Stewards’ Cup and Patron’s Bowl before running a brave fourth in the Derby to fellow New Zealand-bred Infantry.

Although Alibi missed the placings, the horse pleased Clements.

“I am really happy with the way that Alibi went in the Derby last Sunday,” Clements said.

“His run was a great effort, but the 2000m is probably a bit too far for him at this stage.

“He’s had a great campaign and is having a short break at the moment. He’ll be resuming in the (Singapore) Jumbo Jet Trophy which will be run over 1400m in September.”

SHOWMEUP RETURNS TO THE STABLE

Southern Stakes winner Showemup is back in work with her Ascot Park trainer Sally McKay, and there are already lofty ambitions in place for the galloper.

“She’s doing well and we’ll be targeting the Cup meeting at Riccarton with her,” she said.

Showemup’s main aim is likely to be the Group Three Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders’ Stakes.

The Showcasing filly was successful in this season’s Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes and she also earned black type placings in the Gore and Dunedin Guineas and the New Zealand Bloodstock Warstep Stakes.
