Victorian jockey Harry Coffey will be out of the saddle for at least three weeks after undergoing surgery on Monday.

The Swan Hill-based rider sustained an injury to his hand and wrist during the Swan Hill Cup carnival over the King’s Birthday long weekend.

Scans last week revealed the extent of the injury.

“He went and got it scanned the other day; it’s his wrist and his thumb,” Coffey’s manager Dean Hawkes told Racing.com.

“They said if they didn’t operate, it would be a six- or seven-week injury, but if they do operate, it will only be three weeks.”
