Garibaldi racing news
Garibaldi drops back in grade for Saturday’s meeting at Doomben.

Queensland racing is back at Doomben this week, headlined by The Phoenix. Nine races are scheduled to be run, with the first to jump at 11:37am AEST. The track is currently rated a Soft 7 with Brisbane relatively overcast on Friday and on Saturday morning. The rail goes out 2.5m for the entire circumference.

Saturday racing tips for Doomben

Best Bet
Race 2 – Hold The Line @ $1.90

Hold The Line gave us a great sight two starts back when we had her on top at $21 in the Listed Chief De Beers at the Sunshine Coast, where she finished second before running home fairly in the Hinkler three weeks ago behind Scallopini. The 4yo mare finds herself in a significantly easier Class 6 Handicap against much easier opposition. Jake Bayliss shouldn’t be too far away from barrier two, considering there are only seven runners. Bring It Home Pop and Prince Of Tie will both go forward and make it a genuine sprint over the 1110m course. She will carry half a kilo less than her main danger, Sofie’s Gold Class, which will be especially advantageous if Hold The Line is closer in the run than her market rival. The 1110m trip will be perfect third up for the Your Song mare, which has a brilliant record at the trip (9:4-2-1). She should justify the even-money quote in the second event on the program.

Next Best
Race 8 – Garibaldi @ $4 Bet365

Another runner that finds a significant drop in grade is Tony Gollan’s Garibaldi. The I Am Invincible colt hasn’t won since his debut victory at Eagle Farm back in February last year, but he has been tested in a number of Group and Listed races in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. In the 3yo’s last two starts, he finished midfield in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas and Group 3 Fred Best Classic, which were both credible runs. Gollan drops him back to a Colts & Geldings Handicap race over 1200m against much weaker opponents. He should get the run of the race from barrier four under Baylee Nothdurft and have every possible chance of making it win number two.

Best Value
Race 9 – Spurcraft @ $7.50 Sportsbet

The lightning quick Spurcraft finds himself back at the races after nearly two months off the scene. The Jet Spur gelding gets back to his favourite track, where he is a three-time winner, and will be suited by the freshen up (T:4:3-1-0). He absolutely flies when first up off a break and is also unbeaten at the Doomben 1100m course. He is a two-time winner on a soft track, which he will find here. Bubba Tilley will be pursuing the lead on the 6yo from barrier six and will take a power of running down despite having to carry 59.5kg. Tilley has partnered ‘Jimmy the Jet’ 15 times for eight wins and five placings and will be hoping to return to the winners stall on the big chestnut for the first time since December, when he won the Listed Bribie Handicap. The $7.50 as of Friday morning is over the odds, in our opinion, so Spurcraft presents as a great bet in the get-out stakes.
