Debut Winner Scratched From Golden Gift

Impressive Randwick winner Tiger Of Malay has been scratched from the $1 million Golden Gift after pulling up sore following trackwork.

Trainers Richard and Michael Freedman confirmed the colt would be spelled immediately with a view to the autumn two-year-old races.

“He pulled up slightly sore behind and with the horse’s health the highest priority, we’ve opted to give him a spell,” the stable said in a tweet.

Tiger Of Malay came from off the pace to take out the Kirkham Plate at Randwick last month and was among the fancied runners for Saturday’s 1100m Rosehill feature.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Captivant is a $3.60 favourite to give the partnership its second consecutive win in the Golden Gift after Dame Giselle’s runaway victory last year.

The Golden Gift carries first prize money of $580,000, all but ensuring the winner a berth in the Golden Slipper.
