Freedman Brothers Have Eye Of The Tiger
Brothers and training partners Richard and Michael Freedman will field a strong team at Rosehill and they are particularly keen on two-year-old colt Tiger Of Malay in the $1 million Golden Gift.
The Extreme Choice youngster was impressive on debut at Randwick when he defeated Cerda and Mura Mura and Richard Freedman believes the best is yet to come.
“I think there’s more improvement in him than most of those that he met at the last start,” Freedman said.
“If you look at the improvement he took from his trial to his first race, if he improves that much again he’ll be very, very hard to beat.”
Luvoir is another live chance for the Freedman camp in the 1800m Handicap with the Deep Field gelding starting to put it all together on the racetrack.
The four-year-old took nine starts to shed his maiden tag but he has not finished out of the first two in four subsequent runs.
“He’s having a great prep that horse. He really hasn’t done much wrong at all this preparation,” Freedman said.
“We always thought he was a metropolitan class horse but he just took a while to figure it out.
“He’s become very consistent which he completely wasn’t last prep.”
Team Freedman round out the day with their Dynamic Syndications import Greek Hero in the Iron Jack Handicap over 1300m.
The five-year-old is first up on Saturday and Freedman is keeping a close eye on the skies over the coming days.
“I am just watching the weather with him. I scratched him because of the wet track last Saturday,” Freedman said.
“If it gets 30 mils of rain on it, which they’re predicting, it’ll be back in the heavy range again. I’m a bit cautious as to how the track is going to play.”
With his son Will recently branching out as a trainer in his own right at Scone, Freedman admits he has been there to give a bit of advice along the way.
“It’s quite challenging training in the country,” Freedman said.
“He’s cutting his teeth and he’s got a good book of skills, but its different when you’re doing it on your own.
“Some of them (questions) I can’t help him with and I will just say, ‘Mate, I’m not training under those conditions so you have to make the call on that yourself’.”
