Chairman’s Stakes Top Tip – Renonsu

The Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) is one of the feature events of the day, and we are hoping the James Cummings-trained Renosu can break his maiden when resuming from a brief spell. Having shown plenty of promise in his initial two starts, the two-year-old son of Exceed And Excel looks well-placed here by the Godolphin team. He is armed with a strong turn of foot, and considering he is the most experienced horse in the field in terms of race day conditions, he looks a smart bet. The colt will look to get back upon settling, but under a well-timed steer from Damien Oliver we expect Renonsu to be the one finishing over the top. We are more than happy to take the $3 provided from Ladbrokes.

Manfred Stakes top tip – Unflinching

The Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) is the other feature event on Saturday, and we will be hoping the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Unflinching can remain undefeated. The three-year-old son of I Am Invincible returned from a brief spell with a dominant 2.75-length win at The Valley on January 20 and looks set to go on with the job on Saturday. He makes his own luck up on speed, and on Saturday we expect to see Damien Thornton take the colt to the front of the field and make them chase. With wins over Translation and Duchy Of Savoy, this looks right up Unflinching’s alley. The $4.60 available at Bet365 looks a nice price for this colt, who is already a $12 chance in Oakleigh Plate betting.

Caulfield Best Bet – Tuvalu

We need to be patient and wait until the final race of the day for our best bet as dominant last-start winner Tuvalu steps out over 1600m. The four-year-old son of Kermadec is yet to finish outside of the top two in six starts, notching up four wins in the process. His two defeats have been to subsequent Golden Eagle winner I’m Thunderstruck, both coming last winter. He returned with a smart all-the-way win at Warrnambool on January 20 and looked to have plenty left in the tank when bolting in by 3.5 lengths. He does his best racing when settling up on speed, and from barrier nine we anticipate Jarrod Fry will look to have Tuvalu settled outside the leader. With Group 1 formlines tied in and a genuine will to win, Tuvalu looks a clear best bet on Saturday’s card at Caulfield.

Next Best Bet at Caulfield – Ho Ho Khan

Mitchell Freedman will be hoping Ho Ho Khan can make it two wins from as many starts at Caulfield. He was a smart winner over 2000m at the track on January 8 and, despite stepping back to 1800m, looks extremely hard to hold out. He has a Group 3 win to his name in Hong Kong earlier in his career and consistently oozes class, despite having a poor winning strike rate. With a genuine speed expected to be set throughout, the race looks like it will be perfectly set up for the likes of Ho Ho Khan to finish over the top of the leaders. With Tahlia Hope claiming 2kg, he will go around with 57.5kg on his back, which will only aid his chances. The $6 on offer from Ladbrokes looks to be a steal.

Best Value Bet at Caulfield – Sensationalisation

The opening leg of the quaddie looks to be an open event on paper, but we are giving the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr-trained Sensationalisation at a price. The four-year-old Written Tycoon mare was a hard watch at the track and distance on January 26 and on the quick backup looks to be a good bet on Saturday. She was trapped three wide with no cover on that day and did well to stick on and go down by 3.5 lengths behind a couple of smart ones. From barrier five, luck should be taken out of the equation, with Jye McNeil likely to have the brown mare settled midfield with cover. Her turn of foot is more than good enough to take out a BM78 like this.
