Horsebetting’s Victorian tipster brings you the betting preview for Caulfield’s $200,000 feature race of the day in race five at 3:05pm local time. The Group 3 IVE > Print Manfred Stakes will take place with a small field of six due to Paulele and Ranch Hand opting to race in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes at Royal Randwick in race eight. This race is looked to be controlled from the front pack as online bookmaker favourites Generation and Unflinching will look to go forward and hold the position all the way to the post.

Manfred Stakes Betting Tips

Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained colt Generation has been brought to this contest as a first up assignment. Despite having to jump from barrier 7 here, the Snitzel colt will be aiming for a forward position in the pack of six which will be the key considering this relatively small field is unlikely to burn along early. Generation has strong track/distance results with his only start over the 1200m at Caulfield ending in a 3.25 length win over Linas Legend who also takes place in the race. This looks to be a solid target for Generation to tackle fresh as he tries to secure a spot in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap on March 12 at Flemington Racecourse.

Anthony and Sam Freedman’s undefeated I am Invincible colt Unflinching put pay to his rivals over 1000m at Moonee Valley after an immature start to the race. With better racing manners this colt could be a big talent, and from barrier 5 here in a smaller field he should find no problems getting a forward spot. The step out to 1200m does raise some questions however his late sectionals were fantastic at The Valley. Jumping from middle gate Unflinching is likely to find itself at the front of the pack with Generation. With sitting at three from three in his early career on good track conditions and Caulfield set for a good 4 sets the three-year-old bay colt up well for another impressive run permitting track manners have been improved since last run.

Stablemate of Generation, Marine One will jump from barrier three here after a months rest since last start at Caulfield. Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have booked Ben Allen for this ride after Marine One fell short attempting to charge down In The Boat over the 1100m last start. Only one placing from four attempts at Caulfield reads that he doesn’t love the track. Running over the 1200m is a genuine question mark for Marine One with his only run being the 11th place in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, however with previous results showing the way he attacked the line this could be the step up in distance the Chestnut Colt needs to improve his record.

Bay Gelding Umgawa trained by Leon and Troy Corstens put in some great sectionals last start out over the 1400m at Flemington, however its racing pattern would need to be improved in order to be a genuine chance here. If Umgawa can find a spot less than 5L away from the lead he may be a smokey backmarker chance. Previous history showing it’s more than likely Umgawa will find himself out of his comfort zone and too far back against this fast-paced race of six.
