Yankee Rose wins ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes

Yankee Rose has made up for her second placing in the Golden Slipper with a dominant win in the $1 million Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick.

Coming from midfield for jockey Zac Purton, Yankee Rose joined in at the 200m and put the race beyond doubt to give trainer David Vandyke his first Group One win.

“(David) was brave a man to run her first-up in the Slipper and he presented her again today in great fashion,” Purton said.

Yankee Rose cost $10,000 as a yearling and she went into the Golden Slipper on an unorthodox preparation without an autumn lead-up run.

Godolphin colt Telperion was no match for Yankee Rose on Saturday in finishing with another filly, Faraway Town, taking the minor placing.

There were high expectations for Yankee Rose in the Sires’ because she started favourite at $3.80 but Vandyke said it was hard to comprehend he had posted his first Group One winner.

“I’m still numb. I still can’t believe I’ve won a Group One. She’s just an amazing filly,” he said.
