Warwick Farm midweek racing tips and form, Wednesday January 18
WARWICK Farm hosts some of the best midweek fields we’ve seen in awhile with a quality seven-race card this Wednesday.
The Tab Rewards Mares Handicap features a top notch field of up-and-comers which will be pushing for starts in Saturday grade.
That’s only one of the seven quality fields which kicks off with Theraces Handicap at 1.45 where 12 maiden runners will be looking to score their first career win.
Race 1 – Theraces Maiden Handicap (1400m)
Gauguin finished a narrow second on debut at Warwick Farm and another strong showing looks likely. The James Cummings-trained gelding sat wide and on the pace, but it still kicked on well to finish only a nose behind Good Time Charlie which should be good form. It has drawn awkwardly in barrier eight, but we’re expecting a solid effort again.
Ignite The Light finished off well behind Tswalu last start and its form prior was strong enough to consider. The Tony Gollan-trained gelding was running on well behind the likes of Ebenos and the extra distance here looks ideal for the three-year-old. Blake Shinn will have to navigate the wide barrier of 10, but it should be well backed.

Race 2 – Tab Rewards Handicap (1300m)
Top Of My List was a winner on debut at Warwick Farm before finishing in behind the talented Imposing Lass. The Anthony Cummings-trained mare ran fourth on this track before running second behind Imposing Lass at Rosehill last start. It has subsequently performed very well and this four-year-old looks to have plenty of upside. Punters should be expecting a short price with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.
Tswalu is a last start winner which looks to have plenty of upside. The David Prieffer-trained mare finished second on debut at Wyong behind the impressive Tornado Of Souls and it backed that up with a win over Ignite The Light last start. The four-year-old daughter of Northern Meteor is perfectly weighted at 54.5kg and it looks a strong player.

Race 3 – Vinery R67 Handicap (1400m)
Cassadee couldn’t have been more impressive on debut when winning at Randwick. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained filly won by 2.3 lengths in maiden level and although it faces a much tougher field in this, it looks to have a fair amount of ability. It’s a well-bred filly by Redoute’s Choice which should figure in the finish with the in-form Tye Angland in the saddle.
Archangel was a stylish winner last start at Kembla Grange and it should be able to continue that form. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly won by 1.8 lengths at short odds of $1.80 and punters should be getting a better price in this. Its form prior included close-up finishes behind some nice types and it has the right connections to suggest it’s showing good signs at home.

Race 4 – Tab R72 Handicap (2200m)
Dylan’s Romance is a last start winner which placed in its only start on this track. The Marc Conners-trained gelding won by over six lengths in October which signaled its quality and it won’t have to spend a penny from the inside draw. This isn’t the best staying field ever assembled and Dylan’s Romance could take advantage of that.
Gerald Ryan lines up Elatus which produced a good effort to win last start. The four-year-old settled well back in the field before sprinting well last start at Warwick Farm and it would go close in this with a repeat effort. It would prefer some moisture in the track, but consider in all track conditions.
Race 4 tip: Dylan’s Romance to place at Sportsbet.com.au
Race 5 – Hyland Race Colours R67 Handicap (1000m)
Right As Rain ran a quick 1000m time last start which bodes well for this. The Snowden-trained filly finished second on debut at Gosford before winning by a length last start in a time of 56.59 for the 1000m. That’s low flying and it looks a top chance from an inside barrier with a light weight.
John O’Shea lines up last start winner Knotted. The four-year-old hasn’t been far away in all four starts to date and it comes into this having won by just under a length last start. It is a nicely bred son of Street Cry which gets James Doyle in the saddle who is coming off a successful outing on Saturday. Watch the market for a good guide.

Race 6 – Tabcorp R71 Handicap (1400m)
Sovereignaire has spaced its recent runs, but it looked good when second at Randwick last start and that form should stack up nicely for this. The Kris Lees-trained gelding finished only a neck behind Dark Eyes which is a solid Saturday-grade runner and its form prior included a win over Beretta at Scone. It has won twice at this distance and having Shinn in the saddle is a positive.
Nahema is a former New Zealand runner which was working home well last start at Canterbury. The four-year-old is now with Robert Pearse after having a successful career in New Zealand where it won two from 10 starts and it gets down to a nice weight for this. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Nahema fighting out the finish with Tim Clark in the saddle.

Race 7 – Schweppes R67 Handicap (1600m)
Tahsin is a quality gelding which has won twice and placed twice from five starts. The John Thompson-trained gelding has won its last two starts, with both coming at this distance, and despite having to carry a big weight of 60.5kg, it looks one of the better betting chances.
California Fortune fought on well for third on debut before putting pay to them last start. The Snowden-trained gelding won by 3.8 lengths at Wyong over a solid maiden field and it looks to be going places. From barrier three it’s likely to find a nice position and we’re expecting it to be well backed.
