Race 1 – Optus Shop Warrnambool Plate (1400m)

Cape Sounion is a local runner which didn’t finish far away in second last start. The Simon Wilde-trained gelding ran just under a length behind the winner on this track on debut and it was well-favoured on that occasion. The three-year-old is nicely bred by Bel Esprit so sprinting is in its nature and we’re expecting bookmakers to open it up at short odds again. Drawing barrier seven might make it difficult in the early stages, but watch for it late.

Rowdy Rousey hasn’t been far behind in recent efforts and it could show up here at each way odds. The Glenn Thornton-trained filly finished second at Terang last time out over this distance and its start prior came behind the talented and subsequent city winner Petition. It has form on all surfaces and drawing the inside barrier should help its cause.

Race 1 tip: Cape Sounion to place at Bet365.com

Race 2 – Idetect Maiden Plate (1700m)

Euroman is from the formidable Darren Weir stable which usually enjoys great success at this carnival. The four-year-old has been lightly tried with only three starts, but it has placed in two of them. The German-bred rising stayer stepped up in distance for good effect last start, but dropping back to 1700m is a slight concern. We wouldn’t rule out the Weir/John Allen combination this time of the year.

Celestial Jewel has improved significantly this campaign and enters this with back-to-back placings. The Beer/Hinton-trained mare finished third when fresh up before going one better at Kilmore last time out. The four-year-old has taken on some nice types including the likes of Daniela Rosa in the Rivette Final. It finished fifth in that which was satisfactory and the opposition is much easier here.

Race 2 tip: Celestial Jewel to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 3 – Winning Edge Presentations Maiden (1700m)

Bit Of A Lad has been knocking on the door this campaign and a win doesn’t look far away. The Weir-trained gelding ran second at its first two starts this campaign before running fifth last time out when it stepped up over more ground. That wasn’t a great performance as the $2.10 favourite, but the drop back in distance should suit and it gets a group one-winning jockey in the saddle for this.

Truly High is the stablemate which is bred to be a natural stayer. The son of High Chaparral has placed in all three runs to date which included a third at Bendigo last start. It ran over the mile two back when it finished second, 2.25 lengths from the winner, but making the step up in distance again shouldn’t be an issue. It’s bred to see it out and we’re expecting punters to come for it.

Race 3 tip: Truly High to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Bottle-O Warrnambool Handicap (1400m)

It’s hard to go past winning form and Wannon Warrior brings it. The Wilde-trained gelding has won three of its first four starts and it put a good margin into them last time out. The Ne Coupez Pas-bred gelding finished last on debut, but it has since turned that form around with three impressive wins. It has been paying good odds in each win, including $21 second up, but punters should expect to settle for less here.

Kellstorm looks to have potential and the imports are on a hot run. The Weir-trained son of Galileo is bred to be good over the longer distances and its most recent run came over 2816m, but it could have the class to sprint over this distance and give the locals a fright. OTI Racing will have races in the spring in mind, but we’re expecting a positive effort and it doesn’t have much in the way of opposition.

Race 4 tip: Wannon Warrior to place at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 5 – Decron Maiden Hurdle (3200m)

Black Tie doesn’t win often, but it’s coming off a solid third placing last start at Sale and punters should take confidence from that. The Amy Johnston-trained gelding dropped to picnic grades only three starts back, but a return to form and a return to the jumps could see that form spike. This is about the easiest maiden hurdle field you’ll ever see, so don’t discount its chances.

Something To Share goes into the mix because it has form beside its name. The Dane Smith-trained nine-year-old isn’t getting any younger, but it has placed at its last two starts and it has a win and two placings on this track. It has showed solid form throughout this campaign which included a placing over the hurdles at Bendigo and that experience should go a long way in this. It has drawn well and we’re expecting a good run.

Race 5 tip: Something To Share to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 6 – Sovereign Resort Gallywood Hurdle (3200m)

Angelology is a classy former Kiwi runner which won the Classic Hurdle at Oakbank two starts back. The Patrick Payne-trained gelding has since run at Flemington where it was outpaced by the likes of Hans Holbein, but this is more its go and it never runs a bad race at Warrnambool. The Coats Choice gelding has won and placed twice from three starts here and it has the ability to use its flat speed to beat most of its opposition over the hurdles. Steven Pateman rides and we’d be disappointed if it didn’t go close.

It’s hard to line up Honey Steel’s Gold after it fell over the steeples last start. The Lindsay Park-trained stayer was the $1.75 favourite to win at Oakbank, but punters will have to use its flat form as their betting guide here. The six-year-old won the Marong Cup over Goodwill three back and that flat form should be superior for this. If it can get over the obstacles, it should be able to assert its authority of the flat, but it takes on some seasoned jumpers.

Race 6 tip: Angelology to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 7 – Silvan Ridge Futurity Handicap (1400m)

Zimzala is a talented colt which scored an easy win on debut at Cranbourne. The Mick Price-trained three-year-old then ran fourth at Morphettville against a talented field and despite punters expecting more at Pakenham last start, it didn’t get all favours. The nicely-bred type by Redoute’s Choice is bred to be better than most of these and we’re predicting a return to form in this.

Stablemate Mawhooba shouldn’t be overlooked and it has the right connections around it. The daughter of Fastnet Rock scored back-to-back wins late last year before running third in a hotly-contested race at Moonee Valley. It didn’t show much when resuming at Pakenham last time out, but it likely needed the run and it has drawn ideally in barrier three for this.

Race 7 tip: Mawhooba to win at Bet365.com

Race 8 – Midfield Group Wangoom Handicap (1200m)

It’s tough to leave out a horse like Mahuta. The Weir-trained four-year-old isn’t in the best form after showing brilliance last season, but it has been facing tough fields and this is a significant step down. The son of Flying Spur ran ninth in the Bel Esprit Stakes at Caulfield last start, which came after running 12th in the Feehan Stakes. Its third in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes last year was full of quality and the opposition doesn’t come close in this.

Ulmann is fresh up since November and it should get conditions to suit. The Weir-trained gelding won the Headquarters Stakes at Flemington in October before running third in the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley. It has won and placed in five fresh up starts and despite having no form at this distance, it should get a good run in transit and be finishing off well. It handles all track conditions and punters should be getting an each way price.

Race 8 tip: Mahuta to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 9 – Warrnambool Hyundai Handicap (1000m)

Inn Keeper comes into this with consecutive wins under its belt and it could continue its streak. The Wilde-trained local finished second on debut before winning at Ararat and Geelong last time out, with its most recent win coming by 1.75 lengths. The three-year-old rises up in grade for this so it should find things harder, but there’s no doubting its form and bookmakers should be offering an each way price.

Removal looked the goods when winning at Ballarat last start and it’s a distance specialist over the 1000m. The Nick Ryan-trained colt won by 2.5 lengths in a dominate display and despite the fact that it likes to mix its form, it’s hard to go past. It ran seventh at Sandown in March, but that came behind Motown Lil and that form should stand out in a field like this. The tote support will indicate its chances and we think they’re high.

Race 9 tip: Inn Keeper to win at Bet365.com

Race 10 – Sinclair Wilson Handicap (1700m)

High Lago is a multiple winner for Darren Weir which comes into this with solid form. The four-year-old by High Chaparral finished fourth at Bendigo last start behind Kansas Sunflower and that form should hold up nicely. It drops back in grade after contesting rating 70 grade last start and having Dean Yendall in the saddle is a bonus. Punters are climbing aboard the Weir-trained runners so don’t expect a big price.

Jvala has scored one win and one placing from six starts and it wasn’t far behind them last start. The Beer/Hinton-trained gelding finished off well behind Dash For Dee at Mornington and it looked good enough when breaking maiden grades last campaign. It scored by three lengths in a dominant display and anything close to that form will take it very close in this.

Race 10 tip: High Lago to win at Sportsbet.com.au
