Waltz On By does just that to take out Listed Bendigo Guineas
Waltz On By has given Peter Moody a race-to-race interstate double, with I Wish I Win taking out the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick and his three-year-old filly taking out the Listed Bendigo Guineas.
Billy Egan gave the I Am Invincible daughter a peach of a ride as he settled just behind the leaders from barrier three and peeled off their backs at the top of the home straight to stake her claim.
When Egan pushed the button and let Waltz On By go, she booted clear to put up a winning margin and managed to hold on from the fast finishing Running By, who was one of the only runners to make up ground from the back of the field.
Although Peter Moody’s filly won the Listed Jim Moloney Stakes in the spring and hasn’t raced out of Group 3 grade this preparation, she didn’t have many followers and she jumped at $10 with online bookmakers.

With Peter Moody in Sydney, his stable foreman Katherine Coleman was left in Victoria to look after their runners at Bendigo, and she spoke post-race after the win of Waltz On By.
“She’s a filly we’ve always had a massive opinion of, we’ve just had to be patient with her, because she’s not the easiest horse,” Coleman said.
“Billy gave her a beautiful ride there and just flowed with her, which I think suited her.
“She’s a horse that you’ve just got to work with because she can be quite difficult and quite opinionated.
“Today she’s done a great job, it’s great for her pedigree and great for connections in Arrowfield Stud.
“She was good second-up, but she just looked like she wanted that further step up in trip, so today we thought she gets that, she got every opportunity from that ride and it just worked out perfectly.”
After his win on Waltz On By, Billy Egan brought up a racing double on his second day of riding since returning from his long injury lay off, and he spoke post-race.
“She had a beautiful run, when I got to the top of the straight and peeled out I thought she was just going to let down but she hit the front and then sort of put her head in the air and she didn’t really accelerate like I thought she would have and then as they got to her she started to find more,” Egan said.
“When she was on her own for a little bit I thought we were in a bit of trouble if something was going to swoop past me quickly.
“The way she travelled into the straight, she travelled in like a really nice horse, she just didn’t have the finishing touches on top of that, but with a little bit of maturity she’ll come good.”
