Trotter completes unbelievable comeback at Kapunda

Three-year-old filly Kitsilano completed an amazing turnaround in race 2 at Kapunda.

WAGERING on the trots can be a cruel game sometimes, with galloping horses often screwing backers out of a dividend.

Punters could have been forgiven for thinking they were befouled a similar fate after $1.80 favourite at online bookmaker Sportsbet Kitsilano galloped early during race 2 at Kapunda in South Australia.

After getting away cleanly from the stand start, the favourite galloped into the first turn, effectively taking herself out of the contest.

The filly failed to balance up until she was close to 50 meteres away from the leader as the passed the winner’s pole for the first time, leading the race caller to declare “that’s the end of the favourite”.

Heading into the final lap Kitsilano was 30 metres away from the leaders and looking every bit the also-ran that the caller described, but as the race developed the favourite began to fire, making ground rapidly to become an outside place chance.

Displaying an incredible turn of foot however, Kitsilano found the front just before the final corner but broke again, seemingly ending her come-from-behind victory.

She was able to balance up much quicker this time though, regaining the lead and gripping on for one of the more unlikely victories you’ll see this year.

The three-year-old filly quickly entered Horse Betting folklore and will no doubt be a cult figure going forward.
