Trainer Bjorn Baker will consider a Group One start for Lubiton after the mare produced a track record-breaking performance at Moonee Valley.

The Sydney-trained mare was taken to the front by Blake Shinn in the Group Three Powerflo Solutions Stakes (1600m) on Saturday, comfortably holding her rivals at bay.

Backed from $8.50 into $6.50, Lubiton defeated Savapinski ($7.50) by 1-1/4 lengths with the $3.60 favourite Invincibella a nose away third.

Lubiton ran the journey in 1min 34.42, taking 0.36 secs off the previous track record.

Baker said he would see how Lubiton recovers from Saturday’s victory before deciding whether the mare contests next week’s Group One Myer Classic at Flemington.

“Don’t go ringing me in the morning but we’ll probably have to look at it,” Baker said.

“But first we’ll have to see how see comes through this.

“She’s a tough Snitzel mare that has done a great job this preparation.”

Baker said Saturday’s race was one picked out as suitable for the mare to gain another stakes win having won the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong last month.

Shinn, who completed a race-to-race double after winning on Blondie in the Crockett Stakes, said Lubiton owned the race from the outset.

“She was running along the whole way but she owned that race from start to finish,” Shinn said.

“We wanted to make it a bit of a test, playing to her strengths.

“It was a great effort.”
