Tony Gollan still keen on Sydney stable
Brisbane’s leading trainer Tony Gollan is still keen to move full-time to Sydney despite closing his Rosehill stable after a few months.
Gollan obtained 22 boxes at Rosehill last year and had planned an all-out assault on Sydney racing.
But he has had only limited runners and two city winners in the past six months.
“I will close the stables in about two to three weeks. I still have four horses down there and they will continue to race,” Gollan said.
“I am still keen to make a move to Sydney at some stage but it would be full-time. This was really to test the water and see how we went.”
“I never intended to have a full-time satellite stable and this has given us an idea of what we need to do.”
“But in a tough market like Sydney you need to be there full-time. Maybe in four or five years?”
Gollan said delays in the building of the new Eagle Farm stabling complex hadn’t helped.
“We expected to be in our new in-field complex before Christmas and the delays have meant I had to spend a bit more time in Brisbane than I had planned in the early stages of the Sydney venture,” he said.
“I am keen to get into Sydney where the prize money is good. But at this stage it is only 10 to 12 hours down the highway so we can travel our horses.”
Gollan has won the past three Brisbane premierships and is leading again halfway through the season.
