Tips and betting info for Wednesday, May 18 Randwick quaddie

quaddie of the week

ONE of the best tracks in Australia hosts the Wednesday quaddie this week with Randwick returning after a busy Championships schedule.

The quaddie starts on Race 4 (2:45pm) and finishes on Race 7 (4:15pm) and there is some great racing in between. Very big and even fields make it harder for punters to narrow their quaddie selections down, but we’re here to make it easier.

Quaddies are great bets to take during the week, so sign up with Crownbet.com.au and try your chance at winning the big jackpot.

Leg 1 – 3YO Rating 72 Handicap (2000)

Chris Waller lines up former imported runner Vassal which looks one of the better bets of the day. The former French gelding won by 3.5 lengths two back at Pakenham before producing a game performance at Kembla Grange. It should be competitive in these grades and the $2.30 suggests there are plenty of punters with confidence.

Hollywood Barbie has been well respected at $6 following back-to-back victories. The Matthew Dunn-trained mare won two starts back by 2.5 lengths and it won easily again last start by 3.3 lengths. This field is much tougher, but carrying 54kg is a positive and the $6 is a good price.

Hunter Jack doesn’t win often with a strike rate of three from 25, but it won well at Armidale two back and it raced out of its grade last start. Its best form comes on this track with one win and two placings, so keep in mind $6.50 in the betting.

Leg 1 quaddie tips: 4, 5, 11

Leg 2 – PKF Sydney 3YO R72 Handicap (1100m)

Beau Tirage has been consistent this campaign without winning. The three-year-old is a winner of three from 10 and it ran only 2.3 lengths behind the highly-touted Supply And Demand last start. That form should stack up nicely and the $6.50/$2.50 on offer is good each way value.

Gendebein is a good quaddie inclusion at double-figure odds. The Paul Perry-trained sprinter loves this distance and dropping back to 1100m is ideal for this. The three-year-old is an underrated type at this level which could lead them a merry chase. $11 is good value for a runner which will give you a sight.

Dinghu Mountain is fresh up after competing in some high-profile races. The Chris Waller-trained gelding ran sixth behind Sir Bacchus last start and that form has stood up significantly throughout the autumn. It also ran sixth in the Inglis Sprint behind Lady Sniper and that form will take it close here. Current favourite at $4.40.

Leg 2 quaddie selections: 5, 7, 10

Leg 3 – Ranvet R72 Handicap (1200m)

Ravi has drawn deep in barrier 16 which won’t help its chances, but it’s coming off an impressive win at Warwick Farm. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly carried 60kg to victory last start and if it can find some early luck in the running, it’s a definite chance at $4.80.

One of the better-backed runners of the field is Ciarlet which won by 7.3 lengths last start. The ease of that win is apparent by the margin and its first two starts came in handy fields. Chris Waller lines up the daughter of Northern Meteor and it could be a horse of the future heading into the smaller spring races. $4.40 will likely shorten.

Leg 3 quaddie selections: 2, 14

Leg 4 – Tab More Than Just Winning R78 Handicap (1600m)

Farolitos doesn’t have the consistency that punters look for, but it does have plenty of ability. The John O’Shea-trained gelding has recent placings in higher grades and the in-form apprentice Samantha Clenton takes 2kg off its back. It runs best at Randwick and it should be included at $4.40.

Montauk is a progressive gelding which will appreciate the rise in distance. The three-year-old by More Than Ready was good enough to run in such races as the Carbine Club Stakes behind He’s Our Rokki which is cracking form for midweek level. It closed off well last start and a win should come soon enough. $3.50 on offer is a good price for the win market.

It looks a two-horse race and we’re confident we can go short in the last leg. Farolitos and Montauk add some class to the midweek racing.

Leg 4 quaddie selections: 1, 5
