The promising Sukwhinder will make her stakes debut at Doomben in the Listed Mode Plate.

Promising filly Sukwhinder will have a big cheer squad in India when she attempts to win her first stakes race at Doomben.

Sukwhinder has earned a start in Saturday’s Listed Mode Plate (1200m) with three wins and a second from five starts.

Trainer Michael Costa has been in great form of late with six winners so far for November.

“I think we have had only one horse miss a place from 16 runners this month,” Costa said.

“But we are naturally keen to get more stakes winners and hopefully can start with Sukwhinder on Saturday.”

Costa said the filly was named after the late mother of his stable foreman Raj Dhaliwal.

“We bought Sukwhinder at the Scone sales and decided to syndicate her,” Costa said.

“About the same time Raj’s mother had passed away and he was naturally upset.

“So we gave him a five per cent share in the filly and let him name her which he did in honour of his mother’s name.

“I understand half of India is following her career.”

Costa is confident Sukwhinder is up to stakes class and pointed out the filly had a win to her credit over Niedorp who raced well in the Melbourne spring carnival.

“Sukwhinder won her last start to the Gold Coast. She was ready for city class again that day but the races were at the Sunshine Coast so we kept her home,” Costa said.

“We are going to expand our stable with some lovely young horses in the next year and we are hopeful to be very competitive in the better races.”
