Steve O’Dea hoping Diamond shines

Trainer Steve O’Dea hopes to celebrate his upgraded association with the Aquis organisation with a stakes win by Tan Tat Diamond at Eagle Farm.

O’Dea prepared Tan Tat Diamond for two wins and a second from three starts in March and April before giving the gelding a freshen-up.

Tan Tat Diamond had no luck when unplaced behind Snippets Land in the Group Three BRC Sprint (1350m) at his latest run and drops back to Listed company in Saturday’s Spear Chief Stakes (1500m) on Saturday.

Aquis, owned by Hong Kong’s Fung family, has given him the chance to train their horses from their property at Canungra, in the Gold Coast hinterland.

O’Dea will also train other horses from his Eagle Farm stable.

“There are about 30 horses in work at Aquis and I have 24 stables at Eagle Farm. I will be able to spell my horses at Aquis but also to change their training routines by using the property,” O’Dea said.

He expects Tan Tat Diamond to race well on Saturday with the minimum weight and a handy barrier.

“Tan Tat Diamond trialled well before his last start and I think he will be better now.”
