Scarlet Billows to chase interstate G1s

Scarlet Billows will go chasing a Group One win before her retirement at the end of the season.

The Darren Weir-trained mare will head to Adelaide for her next outing before going to Brisbane to see out her racing career.

The daughter of Street Boss will have her next start in the Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on May 7.

“That’ll be her next run,” Weir said.

“It flows three weeks into her next run and if she ran well in that she could run in the Goodwood after that and then head up to Brisbane.

“We’ll put her in all the good races now for the rest of her career.”

The Goodwood at Morphettville is run two weeks after the Sangster Stakes.

Weir said plans are in place for Scarlet Billows to contest the Dane Ripper Quality at Eagle Farm on June 11 before her swan song in the Tatt’s Tiara on June 25.

The trainer said the daughter of Street Boss was likely to be sold at the end of her racing career.

“The owners are a couple of old chaps who love their racing but aren’t that bothered with breeding,” Weir said.

Scarlet Billows earned herself a black type win last spring when she took out the Group Three HKJC Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

After two runs into her autumn campaign, Scarlet Billows made a return to winning form on Saturday capturing the VOBIS Gold Distaff over 1400m.

Scarlet Billows has won six of her 24 starts and Saturday’s Caulfield victory took her prize money to more than $400,000.
