Connections of Savanna Amour are hoping the Melbourne weather is no worse than forecast to give the Brisbane mare her chance at another stakes win at Caulfield.

Savanna Amour won the Group Two Angus Armanasco Stakes at the track in February after running third in the Group Three Kevin Hayes Stakes at her other Caulfield start.

The John Meagher-trained mare, who won the Gold Coast Guineas in May, was among the leading contenders for the Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Sandown last Sunday week but struggled into seventh place on the heavy track.

Grant Morgan, whose Ontrack Thoroughbreds races Savanna Amour, said she had not handled the wet and he was hoping for a more favourable surface for Saturday’s Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m).

“Putting it simply she floundered. She is much better than that and she deserves another chance,” Morgan said.

“The weather forecast is a bit mixed but hopefully she will get a track to suit.

“She has been good for us and I hope she can show her true ability on Saturday.”

Rain is forecast during the week but no more than 1 to 5mm on Thursday and Friday.

There were 29 entries taken on Monday for the Regal Roller headed by Group One winner Vega Magic who is also nominated for the Spring Stakes at Morphettville in Adelaide, the scene of her Goodwood triumph.

Another Brisbane horse, the Tony Gollan-trained Most Important, is in the mix for the Regal Roller and also the Group Three Show County Quality (1200m) at Randwick.
