Rawiller aims to be back in saddle in June
Three-time Sydney premiership winner Nash Rawiller hopes to be back in the saddle in June after dislocating his shoulder and fracturing his back in a fall in Hong Kong.
Rawiller, who left Australia in 2014, is being released from hospital on Thursday after falling when his mount broke down during a race at Sha Tin on Monday.
But he said a dislocated shoulder represented the best case scenario.
“It probably ended up the best result possible. When it happened I thought it had smashed into a million pieces – that’s what it felt like,” Rawiller told Sky Sports Radio from hospital.
Rawiller also fractured his back and badly bruised his foot in Monday’s fall.
“There’s a couple of small fractures in my back, off the wing of the side of my spine, off the side of my vertebrae,” he said.
The 42-year-old expected to be back in the saddle in six to eight weeks.
“If I get an operation (on my shoulder), it’s going to take three months and there’s less chance of ever having it re-dislocate,” Rawiller said.
If I go through rehab and strengthen it properly and get it right, there’s more chance it could actually happen again.
“But then I could probably get it operated on if I had to.
“I’m sure if I look after it properly and get the right advice I’ll be back in … six to eight weeks.”
Rawiller has ridden 35 winners this season and sits third on the premiership behind Joao Moreira and Zac Purton.
