Rain ruins comeback runs
The storm which washed out the last three races at Doomben has thrown the summer carnival preparations of several stables into disarray.
Six summer carnival aspirants – Rudy, Lordag, Volkhere, Harada Bay, Ruling Force, and Heart Of A Warrior – were to have their comeback runs in Saturday’s washed out Open Hcp (1350m).
It was not possible to move the race to Wednesday’s Sunshine Coast meeting because it already had a 12-event program.
The Brisbane Race Club has scheduled three 800m-trials for Thursday which will be open to any horse which accepted for the final three races on Saturday.
The feature race at Eagle Farm next Saturday is the Listed Keith Noud Quality over 1200m which will now have a capacity field.
Trainer Kelly Schweida said the wash-out would have many stables on the back foot.
“My bloke (Ruling Force) doesn’t like the wet anyway but the summer 1600 metre feature races are only a few weeks away and he needed to run on Saturday,” Schweida said.
Trainer Desleigh Forster faces a similar problem with stakes winner Cyclone Beach who was to run in a benchmark race.
“I don’t know why they couldn’t wait a bit longer before calling off the races but we will now have to look for something else to start off,” she said.
