Rageese to chase Railway Stakes in Perth
Rageese has booked himself a trip to Perth following a significant win at Flemington.
Victory in the Group Three L’Oreal Paris Stakes on Thursday was important for the four-year-old’s future stud career, but now trainer Darren Weir wants a Group One win for the son of Street Cry.
The win continued Weir’s recent run of good form.
After a double at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day, Weir saddled five winners at Kyneton on Wednesday, including cup winner Taiyoo.
Weir said Rageese would now head to Perth for the Railway Stakes at Ascot on November 19.
Ridden by Damian Lane, Rageese ($6) scored by a length from Arod ($15) with Federal ($4.80) three quarters of a length away third.
“He came to us with a lot of ability and he’s fitted into the system really well,” Weir said.
“He’s been attacking the line really well and it’s an important win for his career after racing.
“The way he went today hopefully he pulls up well and has a good fortnight so he can head across there.”
Weir holds no fears Rageese will handle the rise to 1600m when he heads to Perth.
“The way he ran through the line today you would think the mile won’t be a problem,” Weir said.
“If he can switch off and the race is run truly, I don’t think it will be a problem.”
