Racing Queensland unveils $25 Million Summer Racing Carnival
Racing Queensland has just unveiled the program for the upcoming 2023/24 Queensland Summer Racing Carnival.
This highly anticipated Carnival promises an astounding $25 million in prize money and bonuses, making it the centerpiece of Australia’s Summer Carnival.
Over the course of 10 thrilling weeks, racing enthusiasts from all around the nation will be captivated by this spectacle, culminating with Gold Coast Magic Millions, which garnered immense attention in 2023.
One of the most significant announcements earlier this year was the substantial increase in prize money for the time-honoured marquee features of the Magic Millions Raceday: the 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas.
Each of these races will now offer a staggering $3 million in prize money, marking a $1 million increase from the previous year.
Consequently, the total prizepool for the Magic Millions Raceday in 2024 will soar to an impressive $14.25 million, up from $11.75 million in 2023.
This firmly establishes it as the sole raceday in the Southern Hemisphere to host eight million-dollar plus races on a single card.
During the Brisbane Racing Club’s six consecutive weeks of exhilarating action, which includes 15 Black Type races, there will be five opportunities to secure a wildcard entry to Queensland’s richest raceday at the Gold Coast.
Notably, in Toowoomba, local sprinters will vie for supremacy in the $750,000 King of the Mountain slot race.
This exclusive event is reserved for Queensland-bred horses trained by Sunshine State-based trainers and offers a coveted wildcard entry to the $1 million Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open for the victor.
Jason Scott, the CEO of Racing Queensland, expressed his excitement about the elevation of the Queensland Summer Racing Carnival to new heights.
With the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas now standing alongside the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) as the state’s most lucrative races, the Magic Millions meeting in 2024 will expand to an 11-race card.
This expanded event will feature eight million-dollar plus races, in addition to the $500,000 Country Cup and The Debut, a race for unraced 2YOs that will now have separate races for colts/geldings and fillies for the first time.
