A small but select field of eight has been assembled to do battle in the $4m Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In what is the fourth round of the mouth-watering rivalry between Addeybb and Verry Elleegant, punters and race fans are set for another epic stoush in the 2000m event. Winx made this race her own from 2017 until her retirement after winning the 2019 edition, paving a way for equal favourite Addeybb to reign supreme last year. He will go forward with Samadoubt, while Verry Elleegant, Mugatoo and Sir Dragonet will play stalking roles. HorseBetting.com.au has previewed every runner for this year’s edition of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, including our free tips and best bets.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes Form Guide

Here is our assessment of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes runners for 2021, including free form and predictions:

1 – Addeybb (3)

Trainer: William Haggas | Jockey: Tom Marquand (59kg)
William Haggas’ seven-year-old gelding is back for another piece of Australian silverware. The son of Pivotal came out 12 months ago and completed the Ranvet Stakes – Queen Elizabeth double in good fashion, giving Marquand his first Group 1 win. His first-up run in Australia this time around was super tough, only just losing to Verry Elleegant which should bring him on for this. Haggas has opted to put Blinkers on for the first time which is an unusual move given he is a rising eight-year-old, but he should find the front and be hard to catch. He will need it wetter than what it is currently however.

2 – Sir Dragonet (2)

Trainer: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | Jockey: Glen Boss (59kg)
The 2020 Cox Plate winner got his second Group 1 a fortnight ago when he careered away to win the Tancred Stakes over a mile and a half under weight-for-age conditions. The son of Camelot steps back to 2000m which is a slight concern as he was no match for Verry Elleegant or Addeybb in the Ranvet Stakes, but he will be advantaged by a drier track; something we never thought we’d say. Glen Boss on from barrier two is a big tick in this entire’s favour too.

3 – Mugatoo (1)

Trainer: Kris Lees | Jockey: Hugh Bowman (59kg)
If there is one man who knows what it takes to win a Queen Elizabeth, it is Hugh Bowman. He partners beaten Doncaster favourite Mugatoo on Saturday who should be ready to go fourth-up into his campaign. The son of Henrythenavigator was terrific two starts back when winning the All-Star Mile and then had every chance in the 1600M feature at Randwick on Saturday. He should get an ideal run from the inside alley and get a nice tow into the race in the straight. Can he peak again?

4 – Think It Over (5)

Trainer: Kerry Parker | Jockey: Brenton Avdulla (59kg)
Kerry Parker’s five-year-old Think It Over has gone from strength to strength this campaign, winning both Liverpool City Plate at Group 3 and the George Ryder at Group 1 level last start. The son of So You Think was a late scratching in last week’s Doncaster Mile and instead will go around here from gate five which should suit. He has won at 2000m last campaign, but we aren’t sure he is up to this class.

5 – Samadoubt (6)

Trainer: Bjorn Baker | Jockey: Tim Clark (59kg)
Samadoubt was beaten a long way after leading the field up in last weekend’s Doncaster Mile, finishing 16th of 19 and 18 lengthsd off Cascadian. He will cross over and look to take Addeybb on, but he is well past his best. Not here.

6 – Dalasan (8)

Trainer: Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas | Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy (59kg)
South Australian entire Dalasan finished third in the Doncaster which is certainly good enough for this, but he goes from the inside alley to the outside alley and rises 6kg in the weights, which will make it hard. He is probably going to settle midfield under Kerrin McEvoy and be there at the end; one for the first fours.

7 – Verry Elleegant (4)

Trainer: Chris Waller | Jockey: James McDonald (57kg)
The sole mare in the field is arguably the best Australia has to offer, Verry Elleegant. The Chris Waller-trained five-year-old mare has won eight Group 1 races with five of them coming in this racing season alone. She has drawn perfectly in the middle of the pack, giving JMac the chance to stalk his main rivals and put her into the race at the right time. She is flying and is looking for not only three straight wins, but three straight Group 1 victories.

8 – Mo’unga (7)

Trainer: Annabel Neasham | Jockey: Tommy Berry (55.5kg)
Mo’unga is flying the flag for the three-year-olds with connections hoping that he can bounce back after being somewhat disappointing in the Doncaster. He won the Rosehill Guineas on March 27 at this distance on a Soft 7, and his late burst in Saturday’s mile race suggested he needed further. He will be out the back early and really chiming into this late under Berry on the minimum weight.

Best bets for 2021 Queen Elizabeth Stakes

This is going to be another cracking race to watch, regardless of how we end up on the punt. Addeybb versus Verry Elleegant will be the feature matchup, but with the added elements of Mugatoo, Sir Dragonet and Mo’unga, it should be one for the ages. We were with Verry Elleegant in the Ranvet and we won’t be jumping off here. She can give Chris Waller another Queen Elizabeth Stakes win.
