Punting pain, mourning & an eye on Queensland in the Twitter wrap
HEAR that? Nothing but silence? Sounds about right.
While racing is a true 12-month sport in Australia, the depths of winter usually sees a downturn in the big-name races as punters scramble to look for meaningful races as the colder months roll around.
Thankfully this weekend we have the Sunshine Coast Guineas to look forward to, otherwise we may be forced to actually talk to each other in the HorseBetting.com.au office.
Let’s take a look at what issues the Twitterverse deemed worthy of discussion coming out of the tail end of June.
Punting pain for favourite backers on Wednesday
Sometimes it is best to avoid those mid-week meets and focus on the weekend, and June 28 was the perfect example.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but many liked the jump out form of She’s So High in the second at Sandown, but few gave it a chance at odds against red-hot Weir runner Holy Seal.
The consensus pre-race was that Holy Seal would romp it in.
@TheProfitsComAu old mate granddukeoftuscany going around tomrorow. Holy seal as well. Thoughts?

But She’s So High rattled home along the rails to get the job done, breaking favourite backers’ hearts everywhere.

Thankfully the more astute punters were forgiving.
Just me or did that kickback at Sandown look terrible? I think forgive Holy Seal for that

But it is little solace for those who outlayed their hard earned, but one punter believes he has found his spring money spinner.
Nice looking filly She’s So High from the @MickPriceRacing yard #earlyspringcrow?

She’s So High was impressive, no question, but we will reserve judgement prior to declaring it a spring carnival ATM.
Attention turns to Queensland as the Sunshine Coast Guineas headlines the weekend
The collective racing community will turn its attention to Queensland as the Sunshine Coast Guineas headlines racing in the sunshine state.
Just in case you forgot too, a certain superstar launched its astonishing career two years ago in the Guineas.

That’s why you should care. So get enthusiastic punters.
Ringo’s A Rockstar is looking to target the Sunshine Coast race, and the trainer is keen to get the event under the belt.
Trainer Norm Stephens has had one goal with Ringo’s A Rockstar this campaign and it’s the Sunshine Coast Guineas. Will dash up Thursday.

In a period that is usually quiet for the thoroughbred industry, the Guineas presents a perfect opportunity for punters to watch quality racing – and we cannot wait.
Tributes flow for Doubt I’m Dreaming
The collective Twitter community was shocked by the passing of superstar in the making Doubt I’m Dreaming, which suffered suspected a heart attack at trackwork on Tuesday morning.
Genuinely rattled by the Doubt I’m Dreaming news. Can only imagine how shattered those involved with the horse are. It can be a cruel game.
— Jake Bourke (@JakeBourke) June 27, 2017
The two-year-old’s trainer John McArdle of Redgum racing said Doubt I’m Dreaming was the best galloper “I’ve ever trained, no question.

So very sad to hear that star galloper Doubt I’m Dreaming passed away 🙁
— Luka (@OrlandiRacing) June 27, 2017
It is a bitter blow for connections of the horse and the racing public.
The two-year-old looked to have a promising career ahead of it after winning incredibly well on debut in March.
