Picking winners for Wednesday, November 23 racing at Sandown

Midweek Tips
MIDWEEK racing continues at Sandown and an interesting eight-race card awaits punters this Wednesday.

The official conclusion to the spring racing carnival may have taken place last Saturday at Ballarat, but there’s plenty of quality racing taking place over the coming months and this midweek card would stack up alongside any Saturday race meeting around the country.

We’ve gone through every race on the card and provided our best bet for each, starting with the Ridgeview Park Stud Bench Mark 70, kicking off at 1.30pm.

Check in at Crownbet.com.au for its Wednesday racing special at Sandown.

Race 1 – Dream Thoroughbreds (1000m)

Mr Dashing will be looking to make it three wins to start his career after dominating the field in his debut as a $21 chance at Geelong, before backing it up two weeks later to salute as the $1.80.

The query will be whether the front-runner can replicate the form on a turf track after recording both wins on the Geelong synthetic.

Another runner in terrific form is Rylea Lass, who is also shooting for a third consecutive win.

The lightly raced three-year-old won as a $31 shot two weeks ago at Moonee Valley and should be right in the mix here.

We are anticipating one of the aforementioned duo continues on their winning ways in the first at Sandown, but we are favouring Mr Dashing to salute to make it three wins from three starts.

Race 2 – Ridgeview Park Stud (1500m)

La Consolidata backs up after last week’s strong third in a similar grade but in a step up in trip. The big question will be whether the seven-year-old can find an extra gear heading into the latter stages of the race after failing to make an impression on the leaders last time out.

It is hard to deny Turfonic’s form-line coming into this one.

The Hayes and Daberning four-year-old swept down the outside against quality opposition to win the last at Benalla three weeks ago and a replication of that performance would see him similarly gap this field.

Turfonic should win this one ahead of the much more experienced rival La Consolidata.

Race 2 – Schweppes BM64 (1300m)

Miss Iano recorded her first career win two weeks ago at Mornington in a solid and gritty display that commands respect.

The three-year-old filly has never finished outside the top-two in both career starts and looks to be a progressive type going forward.

Soho Ruby is another promising prospect that is fresh off an eye-catching front-running win at Geelong to break the maiden. If the race pans out in a similar way we could see her snatching the win from the front.

Hard to dispute Miss Iano’s claims here, who may need some luck from the inside barrier but we will back the form-line in.

Race 4 – Moorookyle Park Stud Maiden Plate (1800m)

Maiden races are notoriously hard to predict and the fourth race on the card is no exception given 16 runners will take to the turf.

Pull The Ripcord has been luckless over his 14 race career, recording place finishes from his last five starts dating back to March of this year.

The last start second to Deputy Dan was impressive as a $25 shot, and given Brad Rawiller will be in the saddle we are backing Pull The Ripcord in to record his first career win at the 15th attempt.

Race 5 – Polytrack BM64 (1800m)

Supaconi toughed it out well at the 1,500m to finish third behind the short priced favourite Vatiaz three weeks ago at Geelong after being trapped wide. The horse will relish the step back up in trip after spending the majority of his career beyond the 2,000m.

Irish import Astrolabe was the consummate professional in his win last time out at Mornington.

The five-year-old camped off the speed early in the race and was eased down in the end to record a comfortable victory. The drop back in trip could present an issue but anything close to that performance will make him hard to beat.

Astrolabe and Supaconi look like the class runners of the field, but we are rating as the better prospect.

Race 6 – Ladbrokes Challenge (1400m)

Adalita looks to be the form horse of the race.

The talented four-year-old hammered the field under the lights at Pakenham two weeks ago and the daughter of Congrats will have no problems negotiating the step up in journey after stretching away from the pack to hit the line strongly.

British import My Sanctuary could be a factor coming off a 12 week spell.

The five-year-old has gone around as a well-supported fancy in four of her last five races, winning once back in May over the same distance. Weir knows how to get his runners fit and firing first up.

We are backing Adalita’s form, but we would not be surprised to see My Sanctuary put in a strong performance first up under Brad Rawiller.

Race 7 – Le Pine Funerals (1800m)

Darren Wier and Brad Rawiller again team up to guide one of our more fancied runners of the day Sweet Melody.

The New Zealand import has been a revelation since making the trip across the Tasman, winning her Australian debut at Cranbourne before going down by less than a length after circling the field in the last at Sandown.

It has been a 200m incremental rise over the last two races in anticipation of Wednesday’s 1800m journey for Sweet Melody, if there is one man who knows how to time his run perfectly in regards to a horse’s preparation it is Darren Wier.

Race 8 – Bigscreencompany.com.au BM70 (1300m)

The D.K Wier lovefest continues into the last race of the card as consistent four-year-old Du Sumpent runs around in the eighth.

Du Sumpent last time out got well back but rocketed home to narrowly go down as one of the main fancies in the market. The second place finished extended the gelding’s run of form to five straight first or second placed finishes.

He might need a bit of luck from the inside alley but last time out showed just how blistering his turn of foot can be when he straightens and gets clear racing room, and we would not be at all surprised to see him put a margin on this field in the last of the day.
