Payne to partner Husson Eagle in Magic Millions
2015 Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne has been given clearance to ride Husson Eagle in the 2016 Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
Husson Eagle will be running in the Starlight Stakes at Rosehill as a key lead-up race and Payne is hoping Racing NSW change their decision which ruled against her last month.
Payne had booked to ride in Sydney, but due to Racing NSW’s rule regarding dual license holders, Payne was unable to ride.
Racing NSW do not allow holders of both a trainers and jockeys license to ride and chief executive Peter V’landys said it wasn’t a rule directed at Payne.
“This decision is no reflection upon Michelle Payne, for whom we have the utmost admiration and respect,” he said.
“However, we have to look beyond the individual when we believe that there are concerns related to integrity and perception of our industry.”
Payne expressed her joy via twitter earlier today, but is still hoping she can ride in Sydney.
So happy!! Would be devastating to miss this little champ in trying to go back to back @mmsnippets Desperately hoping @RacingNSW will abide. https://t.co/Ybmz3qgNQ7

Husson Eagle was a recent winner of the Listed Doveton Stakes at Sandown and will likely be well-favoured in the market.
