Oliver to miss Victoria Derby meeting

Champion jockey Damien Oliver will miss Saturday’s Victoria Derby meeting after failing to have his suspension for reckless riding cut.

Judge Pamela Jenkins on Tuesday upheld Oliver’s 20-meeting suspension, after earlier finding him guilty of reckless riding over his winning ride on Flying Artie in the Blue Sapphire Stakes on October 12.

Oliver, who had five rides booked for Saturday including Flying Artie in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes and Highlad in the Group One Victoria Derby, will return on Melbourne Cup day
